Big thanks to ebailey95 for the dimensions. That is a fun project. I haven't put the top piece on yet and have to figure out a cap first. The long side with the bends was a bi***. I cut out a piece and scribed them with my angle grinder and bend by hand over the end of the work bench. Came out pretty good, I have to trim about 1/8" off the top though. .100 5000 series aluminum sucks to bend by hand . Glad it wasn't a 6000 series or I would still be trying.

I didn't bend the long section on mine, I cut three separate pieces and welded the seams. Looks great man. Glad someone else could use the design!

Got about 1.5 hours of cutting/welding time today.
Finished welding that can.
Cut some dice out of 1/8"

Cut 2 spark plug covers. One out of .100 aluminum and one out of .72 stainless. The stainless is bi*** to debur.

It pressure tested to 67 PSI before our pump failed I'm confident in saying its water tight.

Its good it dont leak now. But it might develop over time though. Ive seen tanks fail after a year and its a minor leak but just saying for next time bring them closer together and not only will it be slight better it will look alot better aswell. And get them edges too and have a smooth corner

No way if he sands those edges it will be weak. The strength of aluminum welds are in the beads themselves. So sand it and it doesn't leak but it will be really brittle and leak really soon. I bet you his holds up fine for years.
More filler doesn't mean more strength. Also maybe the ones you saw were welding with 5356? It's more prone to cracking.

Have you ever heard of autogenous welding? Means welding without filler. And it is still water tight

Granted it's not as strong as filler but were talking about an over flow tank that will see no pressure

A coolant over flow????? If it was sealed where would the over flow go? Stock isnt sealed. It has a hose for drip

The only "pressure" there will ever be in an overflow tank of this design is the weight of the coolant inside of it. The drain tube drips only because the coolant is being displaced by trapped air in the system, or more coolant. AND even if the coolant reservoir WERE to be sealed and pressurized, you're telling me the aluminum tank is going to burst before any of the hoses?

Fuqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqq i need to train under you how are your stops and starts so damn good, and can i see your purge setup? I keep having spit back issues

Do you go continuos inch by inch or do you switch to 6 o clock after the first inch then back to 1 o clock then 7 etc?

How much cooldown time between stops and starts?? Still 66amp?

My normal helmet flickers pretty bad when on low amperage dc. So I had to use this ole raggity hunk of crap, I mean the lens is duct taped on. Really thing walled SS down pipe I had to add a flex pipe to.

How do you even measure for a sub frame job like that? I'd love to do that but dont even know where to start blueprint?

Does chromoly rust?

Or are those HAZ marks

Woot woot. New torch setup. #9 torch and #12 cup. Also have a number 10 cup. Now to find some stainless to play with.
