Has anyone tried this yet? Would it work?

I have an ACT2600 that is done for right now. I need to get my car back on the road asap because it's my DD.

The only reason I ask about using a stock clutch disk is because I've never driven a car with a 6 puck disk in it and I'm concerned about the drivability in stop and go traffic.

Do you thing this combo would holt 375ft/lbs of tq? In the XTD ad, its rated for much more, but I'm guessing that is because of the disk they use with it.

Thanks in advance for the help. :)

It would work but it would be a waste...the higher pressure would eventually eat the clutch alive. I'm daily driving my 6 puck XTD and once you get used to it it's just fine.

XTDs are bad for your cars. :D

They are garbage and improperly engineered.

Pucks are also bad. They warp in stop and go traffic especially and can shatter fairly easily. Meaning, you launch to hard, you can rip the clutch material right off the pucks! Awesome yo!

Not to mention the chatter on them is almost too annoying to drive.

I'm running an XTD 6 puck unsprung in mine(Daily Driver). Chatters a lil on starts But, nothing bad.

I have been using a pucked clutch for a couple years, and I have not had said type of problems. And yes, they do start to crumble after while but by that time they do your in need of a new clutch.

And the chatter is not that bad. They can easily be daily driven in heavy traffic. Only time I have problem is when I feel really lazy in the morning to put the clutch in, since its on or off.

Just curious, Lofty have you used a puck clutch setup?

Not on my car per say but I have driven in one and it felt bad. I almost got one until Mr. Tim Zimmer told me all the problems with them and such.

XTD has a design flaw I can't seem to remember what either...which makes my statements pointless to say.

OP what kind of condition is your 2600 in? If its not in bad shape you could always just get a new clutch disk and have your flywheel resurfaced.

If you plan on getting a pucked disk I recommend getting an unsprung disk as the springs can pop out on the sprung ones. I am using a act2600 and a act unsprung 4 puck and it feels great, with less chatter then my old sprung 6 puck.

If you do not want a pucked disk on the other hand, try clutchnet. I've been SUPER happy with their clutch disc so far.

As you can see, there is no real right answer to me and killas little dispute. Do your research, decide for yourself.

My train of thought is. That is something that's meant to wear out. I want as much material as I can have on that thing. Not something with holes cut out!!!

:p

Well the disk is worn really uneven and the PP is warped. Now keep in mind this isn't my doing, I'm putting it back together after a motor and trans rebuild that I started as soon as I bought the car.

Isn't the unsprung 6 puck going to chatter more (which I'm not super concerned about) and a bit harsher on the trans/drivetrain?

How about other alternatives that are around the same price range?

Thank you for everyone's input thus far, I really appreciate it.

I love my ACT2100 and my Clutchnet solid hubbed stage 2 disc.

I've been told it's extremely streetable and I know it can hold a lot of power behind it.

It's good stuff. Try experimenting with a combo you have faith in. I'm completely against pucked discs, but other can tell you otherwise.

South bend seems to be pretty good from what I have read of Tim's (Twicks69) posts and he knows his stuff. So I wouldn't hesitate to use a clutch from them. Your best bet would be to do some searching on this forum and see what other people say about other clutch companies and base your decision on that.

I decided to just buy a good setup instead of having to do it twice if something went wrong with the XTD. I ordered an ACT2100 PP and a Southbound kevlar disk.

I think this should be a good combo.

Ehh, I don't see that happening. A xtd 2300 lb pp and a stock disc would probably have the holding power of a 2100, but probably survive as many hard lanuches.

Lofty, shut up. You don't have a clue. For $180 they can't be beat. In a high power car they last about 10k, but thats about the same as a name brand puck disc. The only issue I know of is that they can drag if not setup perfectly. You need to spend the time to make sure it releases all the way.

I love the way my solid hubbed springless organic disc chatters, but nothing like a pucked disc.

Why would you get a solid hub organic disc?

That should be a reliable setup.

I'm going to attempt to put 500awhp through a xtd and a 6 puck sprung disc.

xtd stage 4 clutches are great, I don't care what anyone says about them.

This. I have run 30+ psi on them, with a hx40, no problem. If you track your car and want to cut sub 1.6 60's, an unsprung puck disk is the way to go. My act 2600 and street disk lasted about 500 miles on my setup, the way i drive. I get about 8-10k out of an xtd disk.

In a decently powered car, that is tracked, clutches are a yearly wear item, at least. I would rather spend $80 replacing an xtd disk every so often, than pay out the ying yang, for name brands, that i have seen fail more than xtd's.

xtd stage 4 is also what i run. i have been more than happy with it. at first it was different to drive but i easily got use to it within a week.
amazing peice for the price

I'm using the oem flywheel with the stock pressure plate and act 6 pucks unsprung and i really love that setup. No chatter at all. This combo is also capable of holding reasonable power amount. I'm at 400 whp and 400wtq and the clutch never slip once. The clutch is in the car since three years and have rolling approximatly 25 000 km. not a single problem to this day

My friend is using act 2100 pp and street disc combo. We both agree that my setup is holding more and stick better

If you want to give a clutch a try to save money, go for it. Report back with your experiences.

I've had an xtd in my dd honda for awhile now, my friend has one is his 2g, I helped him put it in and it's worked great so far, also it's not that tough to drive. There's too many people on this forum that have good things to say about the unsprung 6-puck disk to knock them.
