2G Xona Rotor Turbochargers

Michael at DSport is a beast, I exchanged a few emails with him in the past. I read the article they had on the Xona series when it came out too and it was very informative. Their engine build program there is incredible also.
I've always been curious if anyone on here has had a 4G built by club dsport.

So im not sure what youre getting at? and Dsport mag runs Club dsport, probably one of the most advanced engine assembly shops in the nation. employing people from Cosworth and formula1. A 4g shortblock from them probably would cost like 6 grand. so im just curious if anyone on this site has one from them.

Yeah, thats right its Robert that owns FP, Michael works there. I of course thought you meant Michael at FP was working for Dsport, I think you knew that, 6k is not that much for a built block, I am sure that I have way more than that in mine, I insure for 50k and thats actually not enough.

FP posted on their Facebook page December 12th that Michael is no longer an employee. Shame- I'll sure miss him going around annoying people by touching their face and grabbing their noses at the hotels while trashed at the Shootout.

Time will tell if the "UHF" turbine will do anything or not...as I said earlier in the thread it's basically like clipping half the turbine blades. In real-world testing over the years I've found that only so much exhaust can flow through a certain-size hole no matter how many blades the turbine wheel has or how clipped it is, so any change in flow will likely be small and a larger wheel is still a better option. Spool and transient response may be a touch better but they're also adding one blade compared to a 9-blade turbine configuration which adds mass, too...so who knows.

I mean 6 grand with a stock crank. I feel like that would be a lot. My magnus shortblock was only like 3,500 with their billet rods, ross pistons, and knife edged OE crank. My whole stage 3 long block from magnus was only like 7 or 8k I believe, with +1mm valves and all the machine work and porting. I just know club dsports engines receive a minimum of 40 hours of labor which im sure is not cheap.

When I looked at Magnus engines at one time I was thinking they were like 15k or something... how much of that is the head? I would guess most of that money is the bottom end.

the head was about 3,500.
the shortblock was 3,800 I believe.
their 2.2L stroker crate engines with billet crank with manifolds and everything even turbo I believe, are like 14k. that included adjustable cam gears, fuel rails, i think injectors, degreed cams and all new timing components, all seals and gaskets. literally ready to drop in and calibrate on the dyno.
when im talking club dsport, im saying 6,000 maybe more for a bare a** shortblock. pistons, rods, crank, bearings, some hardware, the corrected seasoned block, and an oil pump.

I have xr7864 and I can definitely say that it's quite a good quality piece on the outside especially center piece. Rest looks like gt35r or hta86. I got vband for simplicity I guess to remove etc but didn't realize it's pricey for vband flanges and vband clamps. I will get it dynod soon so will post the # then.

Turbo hits 21psi at 4100 about 300rpm later than 35r but it carries its way nicely and that's with 82ar vs DSM exhaust housing.. 476whp at 24psi on e40 and 548whp on e65 at 27psi. Left off on that due to H beam eagle rods. This is my 2cents on xr7864

Those eagle rods are good for way more than that. I ran a set at 600-750hp for over a year, 12,000 miles of abuse.

I only use 3 types or rod in these cars, stock, h-beam, and aluminum. I recommend the aluminum for anything over 700-800hp. The heavy I beam rods are a waste.

Hmmm that dyno reads very low. Same car that dynod 550 trapped 139mph and 142is quite possible. I am kind of afraid to be honest plus that 550 is already scary . Also you think MLS or stock head gasket in case I want to go to 32psi after rods?

When you start making lots of power an mls with fresh surfaces and l19’s works really well. We also had good results for a while with interlocking o-rings in the head and block with a composite gasket.

Ok good to know! It's just I have noticed that the gasket looks to be stockish and we are already at 27 psi so wanted to be safe.

Ok bad news in, head gasket decided to give in after very hard driving over the past month. Started with freeze plug by power steering blowing all the coolant on the highway with very hard acceleration and then over time slowly consuming or wasting engine coolant. At first the loss of coolant was very minor maybe 500ml every week and lately to whole 4l in 1-2hours and finally huge cloud out the exhaust and we are here. Cyl 1 and 2 had about 400ml worth of coolant. Going with cometic gasket MLS and going with stronger rods. Gasket definitely failed me:-(
