Yeah I was too. I pulled the pump back out and shot these pics then fixed the kink.

Cool, i to was a little worried about that. Glad to see you fixed that. So far everything looks great. :thumb:

Some parts finally arrived so I was able to work on the car/engine this weekend.

All OEM timing parts arrived. The front cover was assembled with a BS block off plug, stubby shaft, new gears, seals, etc. Timing pulleys and tensioner were put on also. I also modified the oil pump pickup to fit with the addition of the ARP mains. Then the oil pan was put on. Timing is next. I still have to get a new oil filter housing (90 style), and lower timing cover. Other than that I'm getting close to droping in the engine, as soon as I get the tranny lsd installed that is.

My injectors (FIC 950's) are supposed to be here monday or tuesday.

Injectors came in Monday, so I installed them to make sure they fit properly. I also hooked up the turbo oil drain and put the dump tube on for the (hopefully) final time.

Timing is next, probably tommorow night, as I am bartending tonight.

Hey all. I timed the engine today, and started working on the SBR LSD insert install. Hopefully I can finish it up tomorow or Friday, as I am working out a few bugs in it right now, can't really explain. :)

I got a good deal on a used 90 oil filter housing so I cleaned it up and mocked that up as well so I'll be getting that all ready to go here shortly also.

BTW, tranny fluid smells bad, and tastes even worse. :p

Well I think I am going to end up buying a whole new front diff as mine is royaly F'ed in the A. I will most likely end up gettting a Karking ATB diff unless I can find a hella deal on a quiafe.

On a much lighter note I painted my valve cover yesterday. Its a black w/ some glitter flakes and looks badass. Notice the mitsu star in the center? I am considering polishing the letters on it.

Fuel filter WTF ...looks like something my lady friend keeps in here nightstand. Ahh Busch Light, official beer of garage refrigerators everywhere.

wow love the progress man hope to be able to see it in action when its done keep up the good work oh did you ever get a new diff?

Thats where my Carroll Shelby Shirt went i guess ill let that slide

Hey Dan I just thought about it and 131 gave Warren shit when he had his fuel filter mounted in the stock location becuase its right behind the flywheel and if that explodes it could be a hazard. I know they were just looking to give him shit but its something you might wanna consider.

Damn it has been a long time since an update. A LOT has changed since the last update.

Where we left off the engine was timed and then trans was sitting in peices on the bench due a completley F'ed up diff. Make a long story short a few weeks went by and finally on monday I recieved a new KarKing ATB Diff. Also I got all the parts for the external oil cooler setup. I am running -8an pushlock lines for the cooler.

Speeding throughout this week my trans is back together, clutch/flywheel installed, trans installed, and the engine/trans is in the car. I was so eager to get the engine in on Wednesday I actually did it completely by myself. Wow what a task that was. It made the install about 10x more difficult than if someone were helping me. Speed up to today and basically everything is nearly ready to go. Almost every belt/hose/plug/cable,pipe/etc is hooked up. Trans is full of BG Syncroshift, engine for of Valvoline and radiator filled with, well, antifreeze. Clutch system is bled, axle's in, the car's on all 4's rolling around, the fuel lines are cut and fit, etc.

A few little things to do here and there tommorow and I'll be finally turning that key over for the first time in the 2.3L.

Please, wish me, and the car some luck.

Looking good.
I wish you good luck! Let us know what is going on....

Thats right it lives and its running great.

I loaded in my baseline fuel settings in DSMLink and changed around my timing tables to that adequate of a 2g as stock the 1g has a much more aggressive timing curve with the stock 7.8:CR.

I primed the system, including oil, coolant, fuel, etc and started it up. She fired up quickly and purred nicely. I checked for leaks (there were none) and let the car heat up fully. I adjusted ignition timing to 5* and dialed in my idle.

I then took out the car for its maiden voyage and it ran very well. I began to break in the engine using the motoman hard breakin procedure.

Right now I have on stock rims and tires and I'm leaving posi through 2nd gear but pulling hard all the way throughout.

The car even now feels like an all out beast. I havent' really noted where full spool is but I'll tell you one thing its spooling quick and it's only running 15psi.

I'll update as time goes by.

Congrats Dan! I know how hard you worked on this setup and how many disappointments you faced along the way. It's great to see everything up and running and pulling strong.

Enjoy,

Andy

Congrats man.:thumb: . looks hella good. I must say you did a very good job on your build as well the documentation of this thread. Good luck with the break in and tuning sessions. Oh by the way...what the hell is the motoman hard break in? WTF

wow...those are very interesting point's he brings up....hhmmmm
They have been argued by gm engine builders. For what it worth I broke my motor in this way and it runs strong all the time. I don't think it matters how you do it. Anyways congrats Dan I hope its fast as hell for you this year.
