Say goodbye to those stupid rear side markers in the rear bumper, courtesy of my friend Rodney and his plastic welder, nice job son. Oh and that purple anodized N1 was polished easily with my polishing wheel. I wanted a chrome looks since the wheels are polished aluminum. Originally the car was going to be dark cherry in color so it would have matched but teal is the color for me, so the purple had to go.

Rodney is the same guy that did the front end work on trboblu's front end, which is still the most amazing 2g front end on the planet. 2gb talon and eclipse bumpers fused to make one... woowhie that thing is hot.

After all the fitting for the tank was done I got to make a nice flat trunk floor for my car. Aluminum was my choice but it is awfully weak so I made an “X” to give it some integrity. I laid a urathane bead around the perimeter, screwed it in with about 25 self tappers, and then undercoated everything underneath in the trunk area. For the record I was able to stand in the trunk once everything was done.. I don't plan on putting more than 150 lbs I weigh into that trunk so score.

It is time to get down to brass tax at this point. Everything has been addressed in the engine bay, exhaust, tank, interior, wiring, so it was time to get that nasty engine bay taken care of. I didn't want to spend 90 days working the bay, but I did want to clean in it up quickly in 3. So I stuck a bolt in every hole that I was going to need and filled all the rest. Welding and grinding is the correct way to do it but again, time... I took allen plugs and reversed threaded them into the holes with lock tite flush and then filled any imperfections with bondo, holes gone. I sealed a few other things, made sure all rust was gone , scuffed everything, cleaned it real good, scraped large chunks of the urathane body sealer and smoothed what I could. Ready for paint.

My painter was unable to paint the whole car at that time so I said how about we just paint the bay so I can start putting stuff back together. He agreed and I didn't want to tow the car to the shop so I built a containment booth in my parents front drive way taking ever so care so that not one once of over spray would get anywhere. I went out and bought a 10' X 10' canopy cover and then used visqueen to make the walls and lined the drive with cardboard. I had to add a fan to help exit the paint fumes. I got some funny looks by neighbors and passerbys that day.WTF

I bet his neighbors are like "What is that guy up to now?!" LOL

I bet some of you would like to see some paint huh? Well here it is my lovely teal engine bay. I want to give you a tiny bit background info on my painter. This guy is top notch, like he restores classic cars such a 32 ford, 54 chevy, that kind of work, it is not uncommon for him to build a $100,000 car, he is independent and has basically no employees all just him. Mike is the shizzy nizzy.

This where the build finally gets fun, all the real hard work is done and I just get to assemble a few clean parts. Every nut and bolt under the hood was thrown away and replaced with SS that I spent an entire day polishing.

New OEM clutch master cylinder with -4an for my SS clutch line polished to perfection.

Damn, BLING BLING:thumb:
Your attention to detail so far is excellent! Can't wait to see more!
You truly are striving for perfection with the car:applause:

That old rusty brake fluid canister bracket had to go. I have even powder coated ones in the past and they still rust. So.... a little aluminum and some polishing and well, no more rust.

We have all installed an AWD tranny in these cars and there just isn't enough room with out banging on some things. Well I didn't want that fresh paint to be destroyed by the tranny so I put some sound deadener on the sub frame so if I hit it it won't mess up the paint. My prediction came true and there are a few scratches in the deadener from when I put the trans in the car.

Powder coated engine mounts, but of course. The engine mounts were red which looked good in my red Laser but not so much for the teal, believe it or not some black rattle can paint sticks VERY good to urathane, and for the front one I had the old style of inserts so I just urathaned them in to make it solid like the new ones.

You have a lot of hours in those clutch and brake cylinders...nice work!

I love the front sheetmetal work...think I'm gonna have to borrow that idea for my build as well ;)

Well I have to be honest, some stuff I polish others I don't. Basically if you see real intricate stuff my polisher did it, bigger flater things I did. Yea stealing ideas from me, no biggie been a trend of my work since I started this ride, that is why I have waited to tell the story, that way all my ideas were first seen on my car then copied on others.:thumb:

The burn out vid was funny "I got a buzz". Seriously though how did you breath?

I guess every build thread must be some orgy of selfish people stroking their own ego...

If it was my build thread being lit up like this, I would laugh my head off. I am so sure that Dr. Turbo is so worried about the opinions of snapperheads that he has never met before. I am sure at least half the flamers in this thread have never even been to one of the shootouts - ever. The doc here makes regular appearances, and is a part of the DSM world just like the rest of us. Don't people have better things to do then find the first excuse to talk shizz? I guess some people are still stuck on that high school social level!

Adrenaline, thats how. If you are wondering why I didn't pop them it was because the whole time I was monitoring EGTs by waving my hand in front of the gauge, by the end they were 1250, so I shut it off becuase I didn't want to fry anything. Some of the parts turned gold under the hood after I did that. It was sweet. :hellyeah:
