Alright guys, well I just finished my 14B install in my 95 GSX. All is well besides some minor oil leaks on the return line and the SS feed line at the filter housing. There was also a VERY minor coolant leak from the front banjo bolt on the turbo. I tightened it a tad and I think i went away. Now the turbo is spooling really late because I think there may be a leak before the turbo.
Now on to the problems.

1. The turbo does not smoke at all besides at WOT sometimes it blows out whiteish grey smoke. I'm trying to think of where it could be burning coolant. It never did this before the turbo install.

2. There was some white smoke the past 2 days at the manifold. I'm thinking its the shitload of PB Blaster that I sprayed all over the car but I'm not sure.

3. There's a smell coming from my engine that I can smell if I pop my hood and it becomes more noticeable when I'm driving and really get on it. It smells like burning plastic sort of, with a mix of burning rubber. The lower heat shield is not on the car because it's a pain to get on and I haven't put it back on because I haven't had time. Nothing is touching anything hot so I 'm confused...The only possible thing is maybe I pout on a new 4 ply exhaust mani. gasket as well as antiseize on most of the bolts and the turbo-mani. bolts.

Any help? Thanks.

Google will answer that question.

You can buy a cheap leak down tester at harbor freight, they're junk, but they work enough to get air in the cylinder.

But I would start with a compression test, just to see if you're having head gasket issues in the first place. It may be burning coolant for another reason. I'm just starting at the "most likely".

IIRC to do a leak down test.. go rent the tester from a parts store and pressurize you radiator to about 80-100 psi and listen for any "pouring" sounds. When My HG was blown on my 240sx, I did a leak down test and could hear it pouring into the oil pan at 30psi. Had a crack in the block though

alright, so I just bought a 1995 eclipse gsx. It was sitting for over a year before I got it. But so far the only problem with it is that its blowin white smoke out of the exhaust. When I start it its really bad but after I let it warm up it gets a lil better but it starts really bad again once I drive it.. I checked the gasket and it looks fine but there are signs of leakage and there was only 2 bolts and a broken one holding the manifold down to the exhaust. Oh and sometimes the engine dies randomly when i drive it. I also took all the bad gas out and put clean gas in. The oil looks good but im doin an oil change probably tomorrow. So i dont know whats wrong, i need some help, any ideas?

White smoke is caused normaly by coolant being burned.... I would check you coolant level's and see were the sit, you mite need a head gasket, or maybe a coolant line is leaking... But from the sounds of it its getting passed your head gasket into your cylenders and causing you car to bog down.... Another tail tell sign is pull the oil cap off after being run, if there is a milk chocolate film also means a head gasket but not always...

Thats a headgasket bud. take the oil cap off and look at it to see if there is any milkshake substance on it.

well i checked and theres no milk chocolate/milkshake substance, and the oil is clean, its got a great color, its smooth no bubbles or anything. but the exaust was leaking from the manifold and engine pretty bad, could that #### up the exaust? and the coolant is full and the lines arent leaking. thats why iv been confused about this

White smoke is usually always coolant, I just did a head gasket on my car and all that was leaking is a spot between a coolant jacket and the cylinder so no coolant in the oil or any of that, just eat up coolant and blow smoke.

hey guys i bought a 92 eclipse gs and its smoking white and it starts right up and idles fine the guy i bought it off of had it sitting in a barn for five years and i think thats why it is smoking or maybe because the top end of the engine isnt lubricated please let me know what you guys think it could be and im thinking about running seafoam through it.

this is what the guy had posted on his add for the car

"I have a 1992 mitsu eclipse that i just got. I had to fix a few things on it to where it would run and drive. The car had been sitting in a barn for the last 5 years because they couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. It has a new computer, timing belt, battery, cam sensor, rear brake lines. It does need tires but i'm not putting anymore into this car. The car does smoke a little bit but has been getting better by running it. I have well over 1600.00 into this car is it sits now. It doesn't have power windows or locks. I'm only keeping this thru sat. if it hasn't sold by then it will be going in for scrap."

My car has been producing white smoke at high rpms over 3000K. It smells like burning rubber too. It is also blowing white smoke through my exhaust. I have checked my oil and coolant. They both are fine. I checked the bottom of my car and I see no oil leak. However I do see an oil on top of my head. What could the problem be? Should I fix it asap? I do not have much money laying around at the moment but will probably save for this. How long will it last me? Will it do any permanent damage? Thanks!

I would figure out what smells like burning rubber and solve that issue.

Does the car over heat? Does it lose coolant?

If I were you, here is what I would do. You say you don't have much money, which means if it's something like the headgasket you probably don't have enough to do it right. That being said, assuming the car does not over heat, I would drive the car. I would monitor your coolant levels and temp gauge constantly, and I would drive the car nicely. Don't be aggressive with it. If you do that, there is no telling how long it will go before it quits. I would imagine that it will last plenty long enough for you to save up the money to fix it properly.

Check all your gaskets on the valve cover to rule that out, and do keep an eye on those coolant levels and its temp like stated already, check other things if the smoke has another color you cant distinguish do a compression test to rule other options out. Is there a loss of power or any bad behavior besides the smoke and smell? Does your turbo spool up good?

Thank you guys, I appreciate it, I will check it all out immediately!

I checked the bottom of my car, my oil pan and exhaust(j part connecting to the manifold) is drenched in oil. I also hear a slight but not major noise from the shortblock. What do you guys think now

So I just finished installing my freshly rebuilt turbo into my car and the car is dumping white smoke. i would hate for it to be a blown head gasket but i dont want to jump to conclusions. Any ideas what else it could be?
