Hello, I am having a problem with my transmission I believe. One day for work I had to drive kind of far and when I was done I went to pull it out of my parking spot and it randomly threw itself and shut off.

When I turned it back on everything started shaking for a short time. I was able to make it back home but later that day I was driving up a hill in it and it randomly started bucking around on the road. When I went to park it at my house it stopped moving. It wouldn't move in Drive nor Reverse.

At first we though its cause there was no transmission fluid in it but after I had put some in it it still consisted of not moving but only a little after it was first turned on. (Usually about 5 mins after being on it will stop being able to move but when its a cold start-up it will move. I say this because I heard its normal for the actual opposite usually when its warmer it will move but when its cold it will semi shut its self off.)

Also after I had gotten transmission oil put into it Reverse and Drive stopped making a weird whining noise from the transmission but now only neutral does it and it sounds like Power Steering but I know its coming from the transmission.

It would be the pump that is making that noise. Is the fluid level up to the correct mark (check it in Neutral not Park)?

We checked the fluid after I filled it. It is perfect now, it was low so it probably did burn the pump. How much damage would that be and is it fixable? Also, if anyone knows what the average it would be to rebuild the transmission, that would also be useful!

Thank you for the response!

The issue will be if a front pump is still available. The 1g auto's are gone. Good maintenance could have prevented this so you should probably go over the whole car.
IPT offers rebuild service and I think maybe Metro Trans but the cost won't be cheap.

I kind of don’t understand by “The 1g auto’s are gone.”. I also plan on going over the entire car! I’ll look into those services thank you for the resources.

1g automatic transmission front pumps are no longer available. If you burn one up, you are boned, unless you own a spare or a spare transmission.

No, they are considered a 2g model. I don't own any 2g's (95-99) and their pumps may still be available, but it is a critical component, and they are getting scarce, so you have to be careful with these 30-year-old cars. I didn't mean to come off mean, I am just prompting you to look at your car's general overall health, get it up to par and you will be happy with it. :thumb:

Alright, I was just misunderstanding what you were telling me haha. Also I did not feel you were being rude in anyway you are very much right I got a car thats on the brink of being forgotten almost a classic. I should be taking better care of it especially with how much value it gives to me!

Well I hope you can get it cured/fixed and keep enjoying it with the wind in your hair!!! :)

We're in the same boat OP, had a noise at start up, slowly lost firm shifts, then leaving from a stop was slow to catch like it had a 4500 stall converter, then eventually I lost all revving trying to get home.

Converter
Pump
I have a feeling it's my pump, though new from metro like 2009 maybe, 60k on it. Hope they rebuild them, Mark was a great guy, hope he's still into these cars.
