Which / What Oil Should I Use? [Merged]

I've been using 10w30 Mobil1 Synthetic High Mileage in my 3000GT VR-4 and have experienced great results. I tried Castrol GTX 20w50 and it created rough cold starts and excesssively high oil pressure - too heavy! My previous DSM also received the Mobil1 treatment.

Anyway, your oil change interval is equal, if not more, in importance.

what oil are you guys running? my cars a 91 gsx, 48k orig miles, i did some lite mods (turbo back, chip, hard UICP)

iv been putting just castrol gtx 10w30 in it but just wanted to see what everyone else was runnin

i know in my race car (small block chevy) i run the vavolin vr1 race oil, its a non synthetic with a high zinc additive, dont know if its good for daily driven turbo cars

o yea this is my daily

Mobil 1 10W30 in daily drivers, 15W50 in race-only cars that don't see much street use.

I'm also impressed by the Brad Penn Racing Oils, as well as their price ($3.59/qt at my workplace). The Brad Penn 15W40 is what saved Dave's fresh engine build from a shitty Top Line oil pump failure in it's second trip to the track earlier this year.

Never use anything lighter than 10W30 in a 4G63; it's only recommended for climates where the temperatures never exceed 60*f.

There is a bulletin on "Forced Performance" website.
It states if you are much over stock horsepower, you need 20/50
oil to protect your motor and turbo. There are some recommendations
in the bulletin. I believe it sites thrust bearing issues are minimized
when you use 20/50 oil.

Regards
Greg

I'm personally not sure about thrust bearing damage to turbos...
But if Anyone has plans of revving to 8-9k You'll need a higher viscosity Oil then 10w-30 Or the oil pump won't survive

Royal Purple is great if you can afford it, however, I use Castrol Syntec 5W30, it works fine, although, my lifters do tend to tick...
