ok i am going to get a new clutch for my car. i was wandering which one i should go with. i was thinking of the act 2100. Dont think i want the 2600 because it is a daily driven car and will only go to the track a couple times a year. if there are some other brands you all would suggest let me know. i want a good streetable clutch for a cheap budget.

2600 are pron to crankwalk id still go with a 2100 and i have one on the way im not taking mine to the track and doing launches all day:thumb:

ClutchMasters is crap, or at least it used to be. You might want to look at the CenterForce 2500 Ball Bearing clutch. The pedal pressure is less than the 2600 and it has 2500 Lbs of clamping force. It's supposed to be great for motors that are prone to crankwalk (2G's). I'm putting this clutch in my Talon in the spring, and I hope to be running low 13's.

Why is it a risk to 2G's. I was planning on getting a 2600 for my AWD in about a week. Does the extra drivetrain stress make the engine more prone to walking. If so how big is the risk??? And how many 2g's here have had problems with their 2600's to the 2g's who haven't?

i was actually looking at a clutch master earlier this week but wasnt sure if it was junk or not. and my tsi is awd and i plan on doing alot of rough launches on it so i need something that can hold its own. probably the 2600 then huh?

LOL im saying how many people go with the 2600 and say oh crank walk wont happen to me with this clutchand ....POW. it doesent happen too much its more or less like 5 to 8 % chance out of 100% that it will happen to you, but if you want to take the risk be my guest but as for crank walk the act 2600 is not worth the risk ive seen many of us here on this site picking the 2100 over the 2600 if this car is your daily driver you should go with the 2100 its lighter on the foot lighter on the pocket and maybe lighter on the poctet in the future <Possible crank walk>
Just My 0.02 cents

Good luck in your pick
Rob

well on an awd car the 2100 isnt a smart choice for me is it? and plz dont flame me for asking. im really new to everything. everyone was at one time...but what is crank walk?

Lots of awd people use the 2100 and there up in the 300 and 400 hp and there holding up just fine. we have so much to worrie about on on cars with crap breaking why put the 2600 in there and have possible tranny problems < very hard on the tranny when the clutch doesnt give that much your tranny will take alot of abuse > 2100 holds lots of power and is more forgiveing in the end. 1g id recomend to go with the 2600 no crank walk chances there.

well id like to go as easy on my tranny as i can because of high milage. so will the 2100 be alright for me?

I took the two comments from different posts by you, they kind of contradict. (I am not being an A$$, just trying to figure out what you are wanting)

It would seem that if you are worried about the tranny it would make sense to go with the stock clutch as it would not pass as much abuse to the transmission (or am I wrong). The next most forgiving would be the 2100, based on posts in this thread, then the 2600 which would not slip much if any. Please correct me if I am wrong. :)

You got it ......if you do have lots of miles all them parts inside that transmisson n Engine then it would be a very wise decision to go with a 2100 there close to stock feel peded wise and hold better then stock.

LOL yeah they do kinda contradict. what it comes down to is i wanna race the hell out of the car yet im trying to keep it in once piece i wish i didnt have all the milage to deal with though...

well i think that the clutch from factory should be removed you can get a much harder launch with a aftermarket clutch i have a jr racing series clutch and i can jump on 5.0 all night maybe its just cause i have awd

I've got a basically stock street driving/street racing 97 RS. It will not ever have a turbo or nitrous in it, so it's safe to say that my HP will not be higher than 200, and likewise the torque will stay low.

I think my clutch is starting to go, and I'm looking for a performance clutch. One that I can really beat on and not really worry about it.

I'm thinking about getting either a centerforce w/ a fidanza flywheel from howell for $600, or an ACT 2100. I don't want to have additional strain on the car, just a more powerful clutch.

Which of these clutches would be better for my app?

Also, with a more powerful clutch, doing hard launches, spins out of first etc, will I be doing damage to the tranny at all or just the clutch and tires? This is my first standard and I'm still trying to figure out what I can and can't do safely with it.

I just put a 2600 with street disc in my 94 Tsi, and I love it. Lot's of people complain about the increased pedal effort, but it doesn't really bother me. Of course, I don't spend a lot of time in traffic...

-Hello, everyone!! I have been reserching this descision for some time now and cannot make a descion based on posts I have read. Here's my situation, any help would be appreciated. Keep in mind this will be an expensive descion for me and I do appreciate actual experience.

I have a 95 AWD 5 speed w/ 106,000 miles w/ the original clutch. I am planning to upgrade my clutch when it starts to slip. I currently have a FPT 28/28 w/ a supra intercooler, 3" turbo back exhaust, 255 Walbro, the boost is set @ 16#. All my other mods are listed under my profile. Once I get a SAFC and injectors I'm planning to raise the boost to 18#. I am also planning to replace w/ the clutch either a lightened factory flywheel machined by RRE or a light weight flywheel. I race only rarely and may take the car to the track 1-4 times next year to get some numbers for my mods.

I am considering the ACT 2600, 2100, CFDF, and Clutchmasters stage 2&3. There are negatives w/ every choice. The ACT 2600 from what I've read aggravates crankwalk (bad), but will stand up to almost any abuse (good). The ACT 2100 has a light pressure plate (good) but is not good for abuse-drag racing (bad). The CFDF once again has a light pressure plate that does not seem to aggravate crankwalk (good), but is either loved or hated. Very inconsistant results. (bad) I've heard the Clutchmasters were designed specifically for our DSM's to not aggravate crankwalk (great!) , but like to grenade their hub springs! (completely unacceptable!)

I am leaning toward the ACT 2100. I am not a hardcore racer, but will be running a descent amount of power. Will I overwhelm this clutch w/ the AWD? The EVO 7's run almost exactly a 2100 pressure plate. I don't think I will be putting out as much HP as an EVO 7, will I? Please help set me straight!!

Thankyou for any help!!! -MIKE

Mike,

Since you were able to get around with a stock clutch until recently, you should be pretty happy with ACT2100. It is a good clutch, just do not ride it too much or it will not be happy with you :).

But even then, I have seen people glaze it pretty bad at the track, just to see it come back on the way home.

I have SEEN people cut 1.6/1.7 ft 60 ft times with this clutch (ACT 2100). I have managed a 1.82 with mine. It is a great clutch and I would recommend it to anyone upgrading from stock.

goin to have to awake this thread, from what Ive read, you either go with a 2600 or 2100. Is there nothing in between alternative, like a 2300?

My goal is only low 13s sounds like 2100 can get me there. I'm worried about how long will this last, thats why i'm looking for something a lil stronger(but not as harsh as the 2600). I dont go to the track to often, but when I get a new clutch I might. maybe like 40 passes a year atmost.

I was looking at RRE http://www.roadraceengineering.com/ecldrivetrain.htm
and they have a clutch chooser thing there. the centerforce seen to be the inbetween clutch. anyone have any experiece with it?
