Daaaaaayyyyyuuummmmmmm. Layin it down LOL. Nice one, stick up for us FWD guys!
I personally wouldnt talk any shit to a guy running 9s w a fwd, said person has obviously a ton of knowledge and knows how to drive.

That is my awd that ran 9s. It's sitting for a couple years while I play with mt fwd.

The one thing Im starting to see is at lower levels the fwd does have a huge advantage. Doesn't have the extra weight to drag down the track and it's able to lay down more power to the ground. Like now I'm using my fwd to chase the 14b record. You can only make so much power with the turbo so you gotta use the weight as an advantage.

Don't know that I agree with that, I've had both. Even simultaneously.

Just for my purposes the FWD gearing, lower parasitic losses, and that it pulls the car is advantageous. Less things to break doesn't hurt.

I do think about buying another AWD when I see them go up in the classifieds here and on the Link forums because I miss leaving from a dig that hard, but I think my next vehicle purchase is going to be a Fox body for some radial tire drag racing which for equal money will be faster anyways.

There are BS3/F.A.S.T powered Turbo 351W/393W 5 speed Mini-Tubbed Fox Bodies going for as little as $7500 if you know where to look and one of those will leave nearly any DSM like it was moving backwards..

Yeah I'm not trying to be fwd or nothing guy. I'm all around really but I just seem to prefer fwd. I'll probably do a conversion on my spyder.

I'd like to find another hard top gst though. I miss my old one.

There are some fast foxbodys for cheap. I know of one supposedly with near 700hp and over 30k invested for about the price you said

I was just playing around guys no need to take a simple joke personal, I admit my car was slow when it ran the 12.5 but I was on 17psi with spinning 215/50's(with last years setup still dd). I am not trying to compare my car to anyone's, ugly betty will be on the track next season with a goal of sub 10 second 1/4 mile at 5280'.

I like all 4g63's or 4g64 cars, AWD, FWD, RWD!

^^^
I hear that. Its like us 4g guys giving 420a guys shit. No big deal. And truth be told, i bet MOST fwd guys would prefer an awd. Im just saying....
Either way, were all on the same team. Just trying to get the most out of a 2000cc engine.

I have another question tho: Ive heard wheel hop+a ton of whp+ an open differential can be very bad very quick. Ive launched my car once, it started hopping and i got out of it quick, i wont even attempt a burnout with it. If i have a LSD installed i CAN launch without worrying so much right? I would think that the wheel hop would probably be very minimal too. Im just not to tranny savvy and i would like to know more about the real world effects of a LSD.

Wheel hop has to do with your tire selection and suspension. How many wheels you drive is not very significant when wheel hopping. Wheel hope will break just as much stuff whether you have a limited slip or not.

With that said, after all the mitsubishis I have owned, I prefer FWD hands down over an awd car. When set up right they can do the same things an awd car can. And if anyone has ever been in a big power FWD car, let alone drive one, you would understand why they rock. They are more likely to scare you. That is what makes them fun.

Wheel hop alone is a number 1 drivetrain killer. Engine mounts and suspension parts alone will fix that.

I will say driving my 3000lb awd at 140mph is nowhere near of an adrenalin rush as driving my welded diff 2200lb 140mph fwd. But I do love both cars the same as they both fill different needs.

Ok, i have mounts, just not the front one.... The kit i bought(cant remember but its a popular mount kit) came with the sides and rear but the front one didnt fit. The front and rear mounts are the most important ones too. Im going to make a delrin insert for it today i think. Torque steer in 3rd can be um exciting to say the least.

The awd half shaft/intermediate shaft for the driver side will fix most torque steer issues.

Who said FWD is the way to go for drag racing? Obviously AWD is better, i dont think thats ever been disputed. RWD would be great too but on our cars it takes way too much work when an awd is available.

just a quick question, if fwd is the way to go for drag racing why did Shep use an awd platform?

Why did magnus use rwd? Shep is one guy that pushed an awd platform as hard as he could. Remove all the weight of awd and the car is faster and has less powertrain loss. Figure how to put it all to the ground and now fwd is faster.

It is without doubt harder which is way less ppl try it but it is IMO better

For those defending the awd platform this really isn't the thread.

A well built fwd can hook just as hard as awd. Look at kiggly his car cuts 1.2s. He makes less power than most awd even close to that level. Magnus has two shop cars both methanol powered. Ones an auto fwd and ones a 5spd awd. Now if fwds sucked so bad why do they have one and why does kiggly still hold the dsm auto record?? Why is the 14b record and 16g record held by a fwd car???

Just remember each platform is only as good as its builder. We all love dsms and all have a different taste in drivetrain configuration.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Well, other than showing a mod list :thumb:

I am going to disagree with with the equal length axle argument. I have owned five Colts, Summits and Mirages. Four of those had equal length half-shafts. The only one that was predictable was one that I eventually installed a KAAZ differential in. It was a 135mph car so it was easily justified. All the others torque steered all the way down to the stock ones.

One of the best mods we performed were the solid aluminum motor mounts for the front and rear. We have had the same good luck with steel mounts for the front and rear. It helped tremendously with wheel hop. Even on awd cars.

****This is not an advertisement and I am no affiliated with any company that may be offering what I am about to ask everyone***

To get back on topic, I have been searching for a 1 piece or even 3 piece front end for 2g's but I have come up short on my findings. I have reached on to Magnus (they have 2 on their cars) and even Kiggly (he build his own but I thought I would ask), but nobody knows anymore where to get them. The company that made the ones for Magnus has since closed and the molds are nowhere to be found. So finally I started reaching out to shops that build them for hondas and today I finally got a response from one. The reason they haven't ever built any was simple, no demand for them. I got to talking with them and he says that they would need a minimum of 6 orders for them to go ahead and make them. Mind you, price, style, etc was not discussed, I am simply trying to drum up interest so that the dsm community has something new and useful to use.

Here's the question, would anyone else be interested in a 1 piece or 3 piece front end for their 2g eclipse/talon?

Here is a 1 piece and a 3 piece (fenders and bumper)

What kind of weight savings would a person be looking at switching to something like that? And would they have to be a tube frame front end?

Didn't discuss either of those, but being fiberglass I would assume weight savings would be somewhat significant. And from the hondas I have seen, I don't see tube frame fronts being needed. Again though, all I have asked the company is how many people it would take before something like this would get started. Once that was accomplished, then we would get more details and know more about the actual product.

Picked up an old skool BM Tranny/Turbotrix built trans last night. Has the double synchro 2nd gear, billet shift forks, and BM LSD.
