Where are the FWDs at????

I don't think I've been on a track in about 2 years. But when I would go, I'd always run some weird times. My best time(long before alot of what I have now) was 13.1@117, but for the most part, I'd average 13.8 at almost 120WTF.

In any event, I myself plan on getting some track times with my new set up soon. :thumb:

14.2 @ 110, wow, what was your 1/8 mile numbers? Sounds like you couldn't find any traction at all.

Adding to the no traction stories, I finally got to the track for the first time this year. 14.4:cry: @ 103 MPH:toobad:. 60' of 2.467 running 18psi in my almost new tires. Slicks and suspension are my next mods. Sucks that I still can't beat my old best time of 14.2 & 97 MPH.

Not bad at all. Was this on street tires? The last time I went with brand new toyo proxe F4 (shitty tires, btw) I had a whopping 2.5 60 ft and ran a best of 14.2 @ 110. This was my second time out to the track ever and my best ET was 13.9@105.

Yea, i have a 95 tsi fwd, but i am so tired of wheel spin and wheel hop, that im going to sell mine, and get an awd.

One thing that I've noticed on here, minus a few people, is that not many people ever show there elevation when listing there time slips.

Elevation can be very crucial, especially since there is a wide variety of elevations from track to track across the country, as with temp and humidity factors.

Obviously the people that are at sea level with the same set up as someone else's setup that is say, 2500 to 2800 ft. above sea level like I'm at, is going to be quicker, and or faster.

I think alot of people get down on themselves somewhat by not remembering that factor.

Peace out!! Gen X :)

why not just do an awd swap for your car?? It's not all that hard and it would be cheaper than getting ripped selling a fwd in these days market and then trying to find a good condition stock awd for less than 10k. Plus fwd trannies go for a decent amoutn since they are hard to find.

Its not that hard to launch a FWD, shit I had a 90 laser RS-T with 130k and a stock blown suspension, shitty used tires and a stock clutch. Only mods were downpipe to dumptube, free mods, boost controller and a fuel pump.

Ran consistant 13.5x@106mph all day long with 2.3 60'

If I ever had some decent shocks and a some decent tires, 2.0 would have been easy....the trick to FWD is that a little bit of spin is not a bad thing really.....you just have to control it, then when u feel it can grip then mash it. Tire pressure low in the front, high in the back helps too.

The WORST thing you can do at the track is BOG,you might as well just turn around if you do that.

datalogged my car..zero knock..its time to hit the track..great lakes dragway, here I come..:)

I here you wendy I love fwd. Yeah it is a pain in the ass when your on street tires but hey ask them to go to the freeway or just tell them to race like half mile you will catch them in 3rd.. with the slicks on the street heads up still.

Its always best to watch thier face when you pass them hard in 3rd....But for straight 1/4 on the street/track, a fast AWD is very formidable

my stutterbox is set at 3200 rpm that got me 2.1 60ft on street tires 20psi and a 14b at spiking at 22psi . that got me an 13.5 at 105mph.

i have not been to the track but there been some changes: E16g set to 23psi C16, fully tuned on dsmlink with 22 advance timing across the rpm with no knock!! i am planning on doing a run on street tires and another one with my budies 22" slick!!

what you guys think what number i am bringing home???

I hit the strip at the beginning of the month on my normal rt-215's and launching at 4000rpm (no studderbox) and a good slip of the clutch I netted a 2.1 60' and a 13.1 @ 112.4 on pump gas. Still gotta get the timeslip scanned in so I can change the number under my avatar.

any of u guys use a stutterbox set way low for launching?

I have my 2-step set for 5k not exactly low but whtever. If you are on street tires I figure you would be better launching without boost. When I am on street tires I kind of have my own stutterbox instead of just holding the throttle at say 3k rpm I pulse it between 3k-3.5k. If you time it good you can launch on the rev up so that your boost gauge says 0. I find it easier to launch than when in a vacum.

So uh...anyone been to the track lately? I know a couple of you said you were going to jsut seeing if there are any updates. I unfortuantely am going to the darkside and will no longer be FWD. I am still debating if I should run my new setup one last time before switching over or not. So if anyone wants a super nice tranny let me know.

I have slicks(24.5X8X15), just waiting for rims now(news shocks are also on their way). I should be going to the track next wen. I'll keep everyone updated. btw, how much pressure do you think I should run in my slicks? 18-20psi? I dont think I have all that much for HP's to break the slicks loose, but we'll see.
