snap-on sell a tool specially for removing lock nuts. It destroies the nut but you'll be able to get your wheel on off.

TORX !!!! Thats what the hell it looked like.Thank you and I will go see what I can find at the hardware store.

I was noticing that as well so a torx actually won't fit,I also couldn't find any that big looking online anyway.

Someone on another forum had some old lugs like these and said a regular 3/8 drive fit in his so I went and checked and its damn close.Since the key has 9 splines the lug has 8 "valleys" and they line up perfect with the edges of the square drive.I think I may go get a step down from a 1/2 and just beat it into the lug nut. That,or I could possibly dremel the 3/8 drive to fit it exactly.

Thanks for the help guys,I should at least be able to remove the wheels and buy a new set of lug nuts and like 18 replacement keys for when this happens again.

JB Weld it:rocks: actually you would only need to use that if you're 1: cheap like me, or 2: need them off soon/fast.

so I finally had my car all good to go for a test drive after it's 100 000km (60 000mile) full tune up, in my haste putting the driver side front wheel back on I left the lock nut in the rim and drove away! what are my options? I'm sure if I put my mind to it I could get it off, but it would involve destroying it, I'd rather just get another key if possible.. any advice appreciated.

Yeah most of the locking lugnuts can be removed with various other tools.

here the pic of my lug, I think maybe I'll take a dremel to the outside part (it spins freely so I can hold the dremel in one place and just turn ther plastic ring) and then just vice grip it?

im changing the rims & tires on my 1995 eagle talon TSI FWD and i have these wheellocks on them im guessing from the factory, Ive called autozone & autovalue and they dont sell the socket adaptor.

Any place i could get the tool online to get the lugnuts off? Theres only one lock type lugnut on each wheel. it looks sort of like a star bit but its not.

Thanks

Hi Guys,

Sorry if this should have gone to another forum.

My Eclipse came with 18" Morgeti MR7 Rims, however it didn't come with the key to take the bolts off.

I have no way of taking off the tires now, no tire store seems to have this.

Does anyone know where I would be able to buy this key? i live in Toronto

Thanks guys....I feel like such a newb asking this question LOL

Hm, I have those exact wheels which is what grapped my interest..

A friend of mine works at a local tire shop here in my town. I dont know about other places but they have various key's for that sort of occasion.

Also they have had ppl come in who they didnt have a key for and took them off. Usually they can go a size bigger and beat the socket onto it, or use a cold chisel and break it or the stud. This is a last resort kinda thing tho bein how they arent responcible for wheel damage which can occur.

With the million different ppl selling wheel/tire/lug combo's nowdays it is hard to tell what kind of lugs you have. I know mine came w/gorilla-nuts.

I work as a mechanic and the way we do it is take an impact socket that is a hair smaller than the head of the key and take a BMFH and drive it on the spin the lug off. The hardest part is driving the lug out of the socket to do it to the other three. Hope this helps and keep us posted. Travis

If theres a JustTires there there, they charge $25 a wheel to take them off. It'll really suck if you don't have a key and you get a flat.

Discount tire should have what you are looking for. An autoparts store will make you buy the whole lug nut set to get the key. I was in a similar predicament and I visited discount. It was only $5.80. They were gorillas. HOWEVER, if you dont have the old key, they may not sell you a new one. In my situation, I had an extra key laying around but it was stripped out and it had a crack in it. I brought it with me and they had no problem selling me a knew one.

Edit, not sure if they have Discount tires in Canada

Hi,

I have "17 morgeti rims in my 97 Eclipse I just bought. I need to take the tires out and put my winter tires on......the problem is....the guy I bought the car didn'y include the key to take out the bolts! No socket or key I already have would fit. I've been going around triying to find a place where they sell my rims to see if they carry this key but no one seems to have it.

Does any one know where I could purchase this key or if there is any other way I can take these tires off??

Thanks

Take a socket that is slightly smaller than the locking lug (one that has to be hammered on) and take it off that way......the locking lug is usually not on as tight as the rest.

Make sure it's not a socket you want to keep as it will more than likely be trash after taking off the 4 tires.

Then buy new locks.

I think all the lugnuts require a key, well certain rims provide all new lugnuts that you need a key for all of them, depending on the shape, FORMONTOYA's idea will work.

they make a socket to actually take them off they actualy have like little blades in the inside of them that bite the outside and take them off. I don't know where to get them but I somehow managed to have one in my tool box I bought at an auction.
