Wheel lock key broke, broken, lost, etc. [Merged 8-6] stud nut lug key

When I bought my GS, it had the wheel locks, but no key to get them off. Called the factory and paid 5 bucks and they shipped me a new key, but I had them taken off and regular ones put on.

i was going to repaint my wheels today...but no. as i try-ed to get my wheel locks of it snapped....the actual nut shattered, i tryed doing the obv, by hammering on a socate, but so much broke off that the socket doest grab it hard enough and it twists off.

i have no idea what to do...any suggestions?

i would try going to a discount tire co. or a repair shop and have them take it off, they have a special tool, i know cause my dad use to have one.
:dsm:

eff that. are you using the small conical wheel locks? or stock? I was in your situation about 2 weeks ago and was quoted 50 bucks to take it off via airdrill.. you know what I did?

18mm socket + BFH (big fkn hammer) = 1 wheel lugnut off :rocks:

make sure you hit hard, and your aim is true.. kemosabe :p

I dont know if this will work for you, but I once lost the lug key for my car and had to use one of these http://www.tooltopia.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=6739
Pepboys has them also, if there is a store near you. If it wont work, get a cold chisel and a hammer. It will take ALONG time to chisel it off. The lock lug remover didn't work on one of my lugs, it took over an hour to chisel it off by hand. Be, careful though, it is real easy to mess up a rim doing this.

this happend to me when i first bought the car i asked the guy for the lug key and he said it was in the center console i saw it but i didn't realize it was the wrong one, it's a good thing i work at a mechanics shop and we had the speacial tool to take it off, so here's what you do you can buy the kit to take it off, basically you find the socket from the kit that'll be a tight fit on your lock and then just hammer it in slowly so you don't mess up the rim, if you have a breaker bar use that it's better because you can apply more torque rather than speed, or you can go the cheap way if your lock is a metric size you can use a S.A.E scoket to take it off or you can go the simple way and just buy a 6 point socket that's one size smaller than you lock hammer it in tight and use a breaker bar or a ratchet to take off the soccket just make sure you don't go too fast or you can breake the socket loose and screw up your rim

stop wasting your time and get one of these.make sure it's the right size.same idea as the smaller socket, but this one has some bite.I use to work at a shop and they sold tires.got alot of these situations..9 out of 10 times, this with an air gun solved the problem.

ya see I've already try-ed all that....the lug actual broke apart...and theres nothing left for any kind of tool to latch on and wiggle it loose. It broke almost to the washer... I tryed to brake the rest with a chisel but it wont even chip, so I'm ganna go to a hard wear store tomorrow and pic up some heavy duty metal drills and drill into the sides of the lug nut..to weaken it then break it.

yeah, then your in the 1 out of 10 PITA ratio.let me tell you this.if it makes you feel better,i know how you feel.it is now time to go to war. This is a mental battle now.Arm yourself with a shitload of patience and an assortment of drill bits, cutting wheels, propane torches, and anything that you might think of that might help you.Don't give up on that chisel yet.Make sure it's sharp.Start out by using small bits and then moving on to bigger ones.Make sure you get titanium bits.good luck with it.with air tools it can take an hour or the whole day.once again, good luck.

more than likely not.

but most tire shops will carry a tool they use to get those suckers out. its like a tap, but it goes over the outside of the lug, and when force is applied and unscrewed it grabs hold of the lug and screws it out. kills the lug in the process.

i know, i lost the key to my locking lugs.

I have those same exact ones, I still have my key tho...hmmm. They came on my car already, but i sware i saw the same exact set at Advanced Auto...Id go there...Buy a set. But they were like 25 bucks....If you have a second car in your family or somethin, or own another car. use them also....The point is. No hoodlums can steal your rims.

Im not to sure...Just take a lil trip down to Advanced Auto...If I go by there later Ill check it out. And post it.

You mean for the lug nuts?

You should be able to get one anywhere you can get lug nuts at: Discount Tire, Goodyear, etc...

Have you tried anything like there yet? My friend got lug nuts awhile back from Discount Tire, and they looked simliar, they came with a little black socket that you put in one of the 4-way sockets and it slides over the lug nut.

When i purchased new rims i revieved a star looking wheel lock key. Well mine broke and i cant find this thing anywhere. I tried going back to where i got them but i cant find my ebay auction (have too many). Where can i get one of these "star" wheel locks ? Are they all universal ?

I would suggest contacting the company that made the wheels and or the company that made the lug nuts if you can figure it out and see what they say.
