Wheel lock key broke, broken, lost, etc. [Merged 8-6] stud nut lug key

They said they try to chisel the lock off but they can't get the lock off. Is there anything I can do to break the wheel lock off.

Find a socket sliiiiiightly bigger than the wheel lock and hammer it on, should come off no problem then.
I'd suggest breaking it free by short/hard hammering on the ratchet , rather than trying to ratchet it by hand where there's more chance of slippage. :talon:

Yes hammer on a 12 point socket a hair smaller than the od of the lock. Then twist it off with a ratchet.

I have also welded rachet extensions on the end of locks and twisted them off with a rachet

If I get a 12 point socket and hammer it in and try to turn it, if the wheel lock is cross threaded can I still get it off.

when i bought my 2g GSX it didnt come w/ the lock nut key and he told me autozone would have them and he said they make lots of lock nut keys, so i called them up they dont have them, well duh!!! why would they so people can buy them and steal peoples cars.... so i keep calling the loser and leaving amessage and no answer so if i dont get them from him. where can i get them???? i will i have to chop the ones on their now and redrill new ones, i hope not

If it is the OEM one, mitsu can take it off.

Im pretty sure snapon and mac tool companies have removal kits. Basically you hammer them onto your lock, then turn them off. Simple.

Anybody know where I can get gorilla lug nut keys?? I broke my trying to remove a near impossible lug nut.

get the number off of yours and call them, thats how i got a spare anyways Hopefully you kept the pieces. the number would be something like this, 1921SD-Key

yeah you should have gotten a little tag/sticker with the lug nuts that has the number on it and you call them to get it.

Hi, i got a flat a few days ago and one of the lugs is stripped, so i cant get the wheel off. I went to pep boys to try and find a tool to remove it but they had nothing. any suggestions on taking it off? thanks.

You have a couple choices that I can think of. You can try to lever the wheel out with a constant pressure so as you rotate the lug nut CCW it may pick up some fresh threads. If that fails to work then you have little choice but to drill the stud. Buy a new stud and nut before you begin work, also buy 2-3 good quality drill bits... 1/16", 1/8" 3/16". I'm assuming you have the others which you can incriment size probably all the way to 1/2", along with the drill motor. Use the nut as a gauge and find the largest bit that will pass through the new lug nut. Get the pilot drill centered in the stud, this is important, use lots of cutting oil or WD-40. Drills cut best at close to stalling speed, but try to maintain a constant cutting curl. Brace your body so you don't wobble, drill in to the depth beyond the nut, repeat with the next incriment. Do this until you get to 1/4" then you can jump to 3/8" and maybe next will be the 1/2". If there is a small sleeve remaining you probably can just yank on the opposite side of the wheel and it will snap off. The remaining portion you will drive out with a large hammer. If that fails you will have to drill it juat until you get to the head of the stud and use a punch and knock it out. If you are not that good with a hammer, then put the other 3 lug nuts on several turns so you don't hit those threads.

The stud will be hardened steel so don't expect this to be like a hot knife through butter. Might take you an hour, but you don't have much choice, it's you or you pay someone to do it.

How about just trying a nut splitter?

If you have seen one that would get into a mag wheel nut please let the poster and me know.

I cant find my specialy lugnut key to get my Racing Hart C5 rim off... I am in the middle of replacing the clutch and I need to get that rim off... Any way I can get that off without the lugnut off without the special key? Cause I have no idea where those lugnuts came from because the rims came with the car...

Try calling Discount Tire if you have one around or a similar shop and see if they can match one up. They did that for me before on my previous car.

I worked in a tire shop for a while and what we did is take an impact socket, a size bigger than the lock. Hammer it on there as far as you can get it, take an impact gun and zip that thing off. Another alternative is to use an air chisel. And a final option is to go out and buy the kit for rounded lug nuts.

I banged on a socket and put a socket wrench on there and got a pipe for some leverage and got that badboy off...

Thanks for the help everyone :thumb:

Hey guys & girl i need your help.

Okay I bought a set of wheels for my car and I try to take the old rims off my car. I have after market lug nuts but the key goes in fine but lug nuts wont come off. So its either lug nuts are stripped or i have the wrong size key. So ill probaly go to sears tomorrow to take get a bigger size allien key. So my question is how to take off the stripped lug nuts?? lug nuts i have something close atleast

Thank you in advance.

I had a problem with the same type of lugs. I had a flat and was taking my wheel off, and the lug nut just cracked apart, and wouldnt come off. I had to take my car to a brake shop, and they had to weld bolts in there to get the lug nuts off. Make sure you/anyone else takes them off by hand and not with an air compressed tool cuz that will break them.

they also make a kit that has cone shaped sockets that you hook to an air gun, or breaker bar. The good ones are reverse threaded (like big ass stipped bolt removers), so the more you turn, the more it digs into the lug gripping more to pry it off.
