i have a 97 gsx and i lost the little key thingy for my lug nuts, so i cant get the lock lug nut off. how much is satan gonna charge me?! :(

go to the dealer, they have various keys to fit locks. I went when I lost mine, they found the one to fit my lock and $12 bucks later I was on my way home. So it shouldnt be anymore than $15 bucks man!:thumb:

Correct same thing happened to me:)

if you have an aftermarket lock and they can't fit the key they will charge you 80 bucks to burn it off, sucks i know:thumbdown

Thats expensive! I think I'd drill it out and buy a new stud bolt and lug.

Go and buy a socket that is just a little smaller then the lug nut and bang it on there with a hammer. It will be tight enough to turn the lug I have done it many times. You loose the socket and the lug but it is still cheaper then going to the dealer.

Any discount tire will break the locks off for you. The only thing that sucks is you have to buy a whole new set of locks and a key for the car. When I lost my key the second time I had to go get my tires put on, discount tire broke off the locks for me for free. I was impatient so after that I went to the dealer and spent $45 to get a new set of locks and a key. But I hear you can get them alot cheaper at local parts stores.

Alright...I bought my car back in November from a guy and the car has rims with special lugs on it. The lugs take a certain key and the guy doesn't know where the key went nor does he remember where he ordered the rims from. I can't find anyone with the key anywhere. The only solution I have heard is welding a nut onto the rim and taking them off that way, but that would also ruin the rims. I have them sold to a buddy at college. I have my new rims from Wheelmax sitting in my garage and my friend is waiting for the rims. Any suggestions?

I don't think that using an easy out would work because of the amount of torque it is going to take to get the lug of the car.

That depends on the size of the easy-out. They come in all sizes from microscopic to huge. Always use the biggest one you can. Breaking one can be disastrous.

I had the same thing happened to me when a shop lost the key to the OEM lug nuts I had on my car. I just went to the Mitsu dealer and they used some kind of impact gun to remove the key lug. It took awhile but eventually they were able to remove the key. :thumb:

If they have enough room....I know I have pounded an impact socket around the lugs and used and impact gun to get them out...A breaker bar could work also....I would just make sure of the room as not to damage the rim itself...Also you might go through a couple of sockets too....:thumb:

One line for "O'Brother Where Art Thou" comes to mind... "Damn, we're in a tight spot!"

That's a toughy. It's probably not the best solution but one thing I thought of is that you can find the right size socket (somewhat of a good fit) and buy a bunch of them... get some JB Weld and glue the sockets to the lugs, taking care that you don't glue the sockets to the wheels. Let the JB Weld set (probably overnight or whatever the packaging says). After that you should be able to use a socket wrench to get the lugs loose.

I've heard of people dealing with wheel locks that have warn... but that's only 1 lug per wheel. Your situation sounds like you need to do it to all of your lugs.

The JB weld just might work and sounds a lot easier than drilling and tapping but a little searching revealed that yours is not a unique problem.

I did a little internet serach. The best (cheapest) method I found was to find a socket that almost fits and bang on over the round lug nut, then turn it off with a rachet. The contributor of this suggestion said he worked for a parts store and had done it a couple of times for customers in distress.

HELP, DESPERATE, How to get wheel lock off?

I'm screwed -

Bought this car used and I can't find the wheel lock key anywhere. I took photos of the lock (because the car has no head, and is not driveable) to my local tire shops and they all said because the lug is so tight to the holes that the only way is to chisel it out or torch it out and both ways will RUIN the rims.

I can't sacrifice the rims for obvious reasons. Someone suggested an Easyout or bolt extractor, but I've never seen one big enough that wouldn't snap AND I can't see how I would get the easyout deep enough to loosen an 80ft/lb lug nut without drilling into the stud.

Here are links to pictures of the lock. If anyone has experience or can help me out with an alternative route, I've be unbelievably grateful. I just bought $1500 worth of new rims (no tires) to replace these wheels, but only because I would make back money selling these. I just can't have them destroyed. THANKS:

Sorry for the blurryness.. camera was autofocus and I couldn't get it to shoot clearly.

TIA

nah, those won't work. The lug is perfectly round on the oustide. Thanks for the response, though.

yes i know...those things fit tight on the lug and make a little groove into to pull it off....i lost my key once and thats how i got mine off

Try sears, the same thing happened to my friend and they got them off no problem. i think they charged like $10 per side of vehicle. If your local sears doesn't have a "shop", just call around, i'm sure someone else can do it besides sears.
