Wheel lock key broke, broken, lost, etc. [Merged 8-6] stud nut lug key

ok so my wheel lock key is stripped and my tires need to be rotated so how would i go about removing it?

find a socket that is slightly smaller than the out side of the wheel lock. Heat the socket up while holding it with some pliers. Then Pound it ON the wheel lock. Let it cool for a few minutes then try to get the lug nut off.

Thats the same locks i had on my car... Place the chisle in one of the teeth and bang the crap out of it, i might add that you want to bang it so that it turns counter clockwise so that your loosening it... It will eventually give and you can turn the rest out buy hand... Good luck

A socket won't do the trick unless you are willing to do it 4 times. Since you have one on each wheel. Just buy one.

An air hammer with a cheisle in it is my weapon of choice normally. If I don't have enough room for that then I use one of these sockets. LSR2500, Set, Socket, Lug/Lock Flip Twist, 3 pcs.

Just bang it on with a hammer and loosen like normal. They have "teeth" in them to grab the lug nut/wheel lock.

I had the same problem some time ago. Pound a socket on and use a ratchet or breaker bar.

^^ Same here. Just use a decent brand 12pt socket. The cheap ones sometimes split when you pound them on.

Works every time!

Drill the lock. You'll have to replace the stud but it works rather efficiently.

ive probably taken a hundred of these things off at work. any tire store you go to should have a lug nut removal kit, if not you might be able to find just a 19mm one for your application.

the ones at work that usually do the trick are called twist outs or twist offs something like that. hope this helps

at the price of a new set i might just have them removed at a tire shop and buy after market wheel locksafter i rotate my tires

just bring it to a local shop i had mine stuck n discount tire took it out for free of charge but i did tip the guy $10 since he had a hard time ..

just had this problem. was a real pain. chisel and a hammer just broke off the tip of the wheel lock. so i hammered a smaller socket on it and it didnt work either. we had to torch it and hammer it until the entire stud came off haha. but hey it worked and the wheel is off

this is what i got at pepboys to get my of, i had this problem a long time ago and i got this set and its great.
it works just like a big nut over the lug nut i used it on the inpactgun/ and as you go counterclock it tightns on to the lug nut and un bolts it, to get it of, clamp the lug nut and just go clockwise with it and it comes right off the lug nut.

Worked on a car in my old auto class that we didn't have a key for. Just beat it off really. Worked on that car should be the same on any car. Good luck man

The oversize 12pt socket thingey worked for me when I got my Ply.

Shortly after I bought the car, I had a flat and no key socket came with the purchase.

Took a socket, smacked it on the lugnut with a rubber mallet, attached a breaker bar with a long cheater pipe on the bar, and with one sudden jerk on the pipe (acting like a impact wrench there..), nut broke loose real slick.

Then, went to NAPA and bought a set of lugnuts made for my wheels.

well what kind of lugs do you have??? If they are gorilla lugs use a 17m 6 star and it they will come right off.

Get a torch and heat the hell out of it and with some sort of flat-headed tool get a hammer and hammer it off.
You might break the stud but you can replace it later on with one from a junk yard.

WOW!!! I would have never thought that there would be a lug nut forum this long. . Almost any wheel shop will have aftermarket lug nut keys. I bought my lug nuts from advanced auto parts and all of there lugs have the same key.
