Whats the cheapest way into the 12s without removing weight???

Is this a good start?
MODS:
Removed silencer/lower honeycomb
Cut up air can
K & N air filter
Magnecor 8.5 Spark Plug wires
NGK BPR7ES
Stock 1g manifold & o2 housing
3" downpipe
3" high flow cat
3" Thermal back
Turbo XS MBC set @ 19psi
110 race gas
Autolite boost gauge
HKS turbo timer type 1
ACT 2600/XACT flywheel kit
Stock fuel system

THANKS, PEACE 1

The CHEAPEST way:

K/N filter
AFC
190 fuel pump+rewire
Unbolt exhaust
Clutch
Race gas
19-24psi

Don't expect it to last too long though. :barf:

At the shootout, I ran a 13.7 in our 1992 Laser RS AWD with the following:

K&N FIPK (for an N/T)
2g throttle body elbow (don't ask how I made it fit on the stock IC piping ;))
ACT 2600
Fidanza flywheel
GVR4 1st gear
Boost controller dialed in to 17 psi
110 octane leaded go-juice

Everything else is bone stock: turbo, exhaust, intercooler, etc; as you can see, the majority of the work was really just drivetrain-related, nothing much that really made power. The car, except for the spare tire/jack/etc, is full weight, and I'm pretty hefty myself. The trick was hooking up a logger, noticing that my injectors were maxing out at about 6000 RPMs, and adjusting my shift point accordingly to avoid the lean condition and knock that came with it.

Exhaust, 550cc injectors+rewired pump+AFC, and some better driving (I had a high 1.8 60' on that run) would probably be good enough for 12s, judging by the logs.

So basically, I agree with GSX_RCR...it really doesn't take much to get to 12s on a decent AWD 1g. It's the next second that costs you. ;)

I don't know that he would have enough fuel.
Maybe add one of those cheap FPR that can only raise base pressure, and crank it up until he is not running out of fuel up high.

Maybe also a super cheap water injection setup to help with those very hot intake temps. Since we're looking at the cheap and harmful route, he may be able to use the windshield washer pump with a pesticide nozzle on the end, pre-turbo. Not good for your compressor, but it will atomize the water pretty well.

What would break? turbo, engine, tranny, etc

This thread is stupid.

A clutch, boost controller, exhaust, and race gas will get you into the 12's. Not the 14's, not the 13's, the 12's.

You don't need a turbo timer, you don't need a fancy flywheel.

My car ran 12.8 @ 108 with the stock fuel pump, stock injectors, stock SMIC, stock intercooler piping, stock turbo.... should I go on?

Not to mention, I drove the car daily with that setup (minus race gas) and raced it fairly often, and I never had any problems besides normal maintainance.

I can back up kpt on this one. 93 GSX, air filter, full exhaust, fuel pump, boost, 12.80 at 104.59 on a 1.76 60 foot.

Regards,

You can get it cheaper than that! You don't need an air filter!
:p

We just ran a 10.983 last night first pass out of the automatic we threw together for a total investment of aprox $5,500 including the car and all the mods ;)

What are your mods D.S.?

Edit: Nevermind, read your profile. How much boost are you running? Fuel pump? Turn it up to like 17 pounds and work on your driving. You'll get there. Driving is a BIG part of it.

Regards,

1st awd car that is. I didnt launch the car hard thats why I got a 2.3 60ft. THANKS, PEACE 1

damn i need to learn how to drive...i got all kind of shit and only hit 12.7 at 109...big 16g 22psi with a 1.68 60ft....

Some cars are the exception to the rules. I myself have gone through 2 transmissions on this stroker motor I have built within less than 5000 miles. Car launches so hard the front end comes off the ground and slams back down which usually ends up breaking parts inside the transmission. I have yet to pull one apart to see what all breaks. I can tell you though at 400 bucks shipped for a new used tranny I never will open one up either.

where do you find a tranny for 400 dollars....thats the best deal i ever heard of
