As per my profile I picked up the car a few weeks back for $650 CAD and am currently in the process of pulling the engine out as the previous owner said he blew it when trying to spool up on the highway. Other than the obvious (crankwalk, blown pistons, rods, spun bearings, etc.) is there anything I should be watching out to replace when I have it all apart?

I'm fully prepared at this point that I may pull the block and it could be toast but I'm not sure and just looking for maybe some DSM specific things to look out for that I could miss.

I would get new gaskets for everything. Just for my piece of mind. Have the engine checked by a machine shop to make sure it's even worth rebuilding.

Oh I'll definitely do gaskets for everything, I did rebuild an Integra 2 years ago and all went well but from what I can tell the Talon is a little more involved than my Integra was.

Stock t25 automatic? Probably a snapped timing belt. Knocking on wood here but most cars that I grew up around that had crank walk issues were abused cars that had oiling issues to begin with, and most automatic cars never saw crank walk. It is still debated but to me crank walk was the layman's excuse to spinning a bearing, but I never dug into those cars just knew how their owners abused them

Worst case scenario, the engine was starved of oil and requires a full rebuild. Pull the timing cover off and inspect the belts, if no belts are damaged pull the oil pan and inspect for internal damage

Not a timing belt as the owner said that it still turns over "you just don't want it to" so I'm thinking he snapped a con rod or blew a piston, not actually a t25 though, must have swapped it to a 14b at some point.

what are your plans? because i'd throw a stock block/head from the classifieds here and use the one pulled from the car to build up. because you'd hate to fix the problem, throw it back in the car only to modify it a year down the road and have to take it back apart (not that the labor sucks, but gaskets get expensive)

Planning on doing a light 16g build, but for the initial build I'll just run off of my 14b until I gather the stuff to swap to the 16g. I have no plans to go over 300ish hp. So I don't think I should have to worry about it all too much.
