my 91 TSI AWD has a pyrometer installed (by the previous owner) and I don't really know what it should be reading.

Whats a normal reading and when should I start to get worried?

I've seen it dip as high as a bout 14.5 when I really have my foot in it but it normally sits at about 12. Im running about 18 psi and the full list of mods are on my profile.

With the thermocoupler tapped into the cast exhaust mani you're using that's a pretty normal value.

Keep an eye on it and get used to where it reads under different conditions. For example, at WOT you'll probably see 1350ish depending on the state of tune, but at medium throttle cruise you might see over 1500. Just get used to what your gauge tells you so that you know when it's giving you an abnormal reading. That's about all an EGT gauge is good for anyways.

Back in the day before I ran a wideband, I ran an autometer EGT gauge on the #1 cylinder. When I saw detonation, it showed on the EGT gauge by rocketing past 1500. When there was no knock, I saw 1500 at redline and I tried to keep it around there. I found it to be more of an annoyance so when I got a wideband, I took the EGT out.
