So I have a 99 GST with the original motor, I don't know all of what was done to the car before I bought it, and sadly I didn't get too much time with her until she ended up getting parked about a year and a half ago after the engine blew a month after I got it. :notgood:

I'm finally getting financially stable enough to start throwin money at what turned out to be my project LOL, and I'm wondering what I should look for when tearing apart the engine as far as salvageable parts goes. I was told when the car was looked at that I have a hole in the front and back of the block and that I "obliterated"(Shop's words, not sure how bad that actually is LOL) the #2 Cyl.

Also when looking for salvageable parts, what would I need to hold onto/what would swap over to a 6 bolt motor, because it looks like that is probably going to be the direction I head with this project.

Thanks guys!

Valve cover maybe??? LOL jk. I would look at the head to see if it is ok, if it is then the head but if there is a holw in the block probably the whole thing is lost. You may be able to save the crank which would do you no good in a 6 bolt swap. Good luck, Keith. :D

Well, check the heads. And for the block, you might want someone, (a close friend mechanic or someone that you know) check that. Mechanics that are sometimes "busy" might have just taken a quick glance knowing that your car didn't run. If you have the time Pull the piston and rods and check them. As for how bad the engine actually is i couldn't tell you because im not there, but from the sounds of it you might want to just junk the motor and invest in a nice 6 bolt or a 7 bolt at that. 7 bolts are just as good as 6 bolts and allot of people down on them cause of crank-walk, well if you take care of them and keep up maintenance and drive them normally with the occasional stomp it to the floor. What do you mean about salvageable parts? do you have many after market parts?

If you blew a hole in the block I would look for a complete engine as there isn't going to be much that is salvageble with the current engine. Your accessories will be fine (alt, ps pump, etc.) internale engine is toast and block is toast. The turbo may even be toast if metal is present in the oil.

just look for a new motor, you can find rebuilt motors for relatively cheap maybe 1,500 for a built short block. build your current head if its still good. With my experience, a DSM can be reliable if you DON'T CUT CORNERS!

Ahh, I really hope the turbo isn't bad. I know it has the Evo III 16g which I really don't wanna add to the list of things I need to replace LOL.

As far as having someone else look over it, the holes are there, I've seen them myself sadly.
