what is wide band and other terms of tuning

im not sure what a wide band o2 is?

and what other forms of tuning besides link is there/?

im a newb to dsm and trying to learn.

The wideband is a tuning tool that lets you see what your exact air/fuel ratio is. This is very helpful when trying to tune and get the most out of it! It lets you see how rich or lean you are, this way you can adjust your tune if needed. Ecmlink uses the stock eprom in the ecu. Once the ecmlink chip is installed in place of the stock eprom chip. You are then able to log and tune just about every aspect of your motor. There are also piggy back systems, that usually need wiring in. You can get a Black box ecu and be able to flash the stock chip with a diff tune. Lots of options for sure. For me personally I use ecmlink in my gst and gvr4! Just makes sense to me to use the software meant for my car!

I have a 96 gst
after I finish hooking up my fmic and big 16g ported turbo

I want to get some form of tuner so I don't blow my motor.

I'll be keeping psi stock until I one day build a seperate motor

Link is best way to go there's a lot of support If you have problems you cant solve.

Better think of supporting fuel mods, if your adding a fmic and 16g! Even at lower boost it's pushing more air. So you need a way to compensate and monitor what's going on. Start reading up!

You cant install injectors other than stock ones if you don't have a way to tune.

I am a newbie to the DSM community as well, but I strongly agree with that last post! Very dangerous to install mods and not keep up on the tuning of your car. Even though you are running a different size turbo and injectors, your cars computer does not know this unless adjusted through a tune. From what I’ve read so far DSM link is the way to go. As you initially posted, I would strongly recommend investing in an air/fuel ratio gauge to make sure that your car is not running to rich or lean. You’re probably going to need to upgrade your fuel pump as well. But before anything, it is important to make sure that all other maintenance has been kept up on before attempting to install modifications and make more power. How many miles are on your car? when was the last time you did your belts, water pump, head gasket, clutch etc...? I just got done going through all of this on my car.

this eclipse isn't my daily driver and it runs beautiful with those injectors.

I’ve replaced injectors in the past on WRX’s and STI’s and would not even dare to start my car with at least a base map from my tuner in order to get the car to the Dyno. On the other hand, I’ve had friends that "say" they have upgraded injectors prior to tuning and were able to get the car started but it running rich.

Car ran exactly the same after popping those injectors in maybe they were aftermarket 450ccs

All they say is python with no numbers
they were in a 95 gst with a tdo5h small 16g so I'm sure they are fine

But you don't know for sure unless you can see! The bottom line is the ecu is mapped for the 450's. So just changing them without compensation is just a waste If you ask me. No ones saying you can't do it, just that you really shouldnt. If you want any of this to be useful invest in something to tune with, your car will thank you!

Thing is I found a gst in the junk yard with a small 16g.
I had a bad injector to I took those from the car in the junkyard just to be safe.

I installed the small16g that I got in the junk yard and after starting it I could hear the wheel in the turbo hitting the turbine walls. I disassembled it and through the hot side it was toast. Good thing it was only forty bucks for complete turbo to the Jay pipe. I then orders a brand new 16g big that's been ported.. and got the fmic ..

The injectors I belive may be stock size but seems like the owner of the car I found in junkyard may have replaced the 450cc with aftermarket python injectors.

But when I put the injectors in with my old t25 it ran perfect.
Reason I swapped t25 is cuz it leaked oil into exhaust.

Car is sitting now till I upgrade fuel pump and by some sort of tuning option. Just waiting on funds.

But I already bought front bumper rear bumper side skirts and a new hood same color for 130$ from a 97 eclipse. I dislike the 96 look.

Also traded that t25 for halo hid headlights for those bumpers so they would fit.

I'm new to dsm and those are the very first things I bought besides oil change new wires . Spark plugs windshield and alternator.

I bought the car for 800$ .

My goal is for 350hp at the wheels dd.
So I'm in the midst of few upgrades and same time maintenance issues

Like I need motor mounts or at least change inserts. There all shot.

Motor runs beatiuful
The lifters tick sometimes loud but goes away and maybe It's because I put 5w30 synthetic oil in it

Sounds like your on the right track bro! I def recommend all 4 solid prothane inserts for the motor mounts or avid if you can swing it. You can find the motor mounts used in the classifieds on here all the time! That's how Ive gotten all of mine . And you need more than 5w30! 4g63 motors like it on the thick side. I'd go 15w40 or so! Just keep the boost low till you get the mods needed to run more and you should be fine. Get ecmlink and some fic 850's, rewire a walbro 255 and afpr, anything besides the stock 2g bov , and upgrade the exhaust to 2.5-3". And the rest is Maintenance and tune and you should have your goal. You can check out my gst profile and see my mods list. Mine was pushing alittle over 350 with a maxed out s16g flowing 37lb/min! Was good for low 12's and probably could have seen 11's.

Well when I bought the car it had a hard pipe for the turbo inlet to the maf .
also a. Pinkish purple bov. Not sure of the brand but sounds nice. It's recirculated

Sounds like a greddy knock-off! oh and don't forget some gauges, boost and wideband, at the least. The more you get into tuning the more you will see whats important.
