What part of the exhaust is this and is this a problem?

what exactly is this? There was what looked like a broken clamp dangling off the exhaust further down, I think that it may have been off of this. Is this a problem and what is the fix?

Also, on the oil pan near this area, there are little areas of rust bubbling. Is there a heat shield missing here, because I am thinking that the bubbles are from the heat.

so if you go with a 3" dp, I guess that you would have to reduce it somewhere to join up with the factory muffler? I'm not really looking to go 3" all the way at the moment because the rest is staying stock for the time being, and I don't have the $$$ to drop on a catback.
 
Just reduce it on the cat, get a flange off extreme psi( Pretty sure they sell them if not im almost positive Mach V motorsports does) and just hack the factory flange off and weld the new one to the cat, if you have acess to a welder its a 20 minute project. Its the easiest place to reduce it since thats what the downpipe bolts too. But let me tell you, 3" all the way sounds sickkk!! i only have $300 tied up in my entire turbo back. It was $155 with shipping for the megan racing( punishment offers free shipping on the downpipe!) and like $150-175 in the rest( which includes a 3" cat, Dynomax resonator/ bullet muffler, 2-6' peices of 3" aluminized pipe and 1-3" 180 degree bend). a few hours to fab it up, totally worth it!!
 
I will most likely be cutting the cat off, so that makes it even easier, eh? LOL

anyone have any vids/clips of 3"?
