I recently bought my car and quickly after found out it has tons of problems but I'm also very new to being interested in the iinternals. Please bear with me as I try to explain where something is.

In the front of the engine bay there is a circular object with a small chrysler emblem on it to the right side of the engine with tubes/wires (idk) leading back toward the manifold. However, that wire/tube is being help together in multiple places by silicone and I'm sure that needs to be changed. Please help. My bf has been of no help and neither was a Haynes manual. :sosad:

Oh and could that be causing a check engine light or for my car to stall while stopping? I'm trying to troubleshoot the light cause my code reader connection is bad.

It's the EGR Transducer solenoid. Not really sure what it does. A lot of people remove all that junk and block off the EGR.

If the OBD2 (code reader port) is NOT connecting make sure you push it in really good and wiggle the plug around. Mine does that sometimes. If I push it in tight and jiggle it, then it works fine.

Stalling when coming to a stop...I would suspect a IAC (idle air control) motor...but check that code first.

If you are refering to the EGR, then that could also be your stalling issue. If your EGR is stuck open, it is dumping exhaust gasses back into the cylinders and killing your idle, causing your car to die. The EGR is supposed to open at cruising speeds and allow gasses to enter to lower the temps in the combustion chamber so there are less nitrates of oxygen created (it's an emissions thing). Like stated above, just block off the thing and call it a day.

I have seen this issue before w/ that EGR solenoid where the CEL code produced peroidically (just after starting up) pointed right to it (cant remember code but it was P0401 if I remember right). I tested that little sucker w/ a handheld vacuume guage and it tested fine per the specs. Manually blew the thing out and replace the hose line and haven't seen that issue since then (that was 3 years ago).

I haven't been able to take it out yet or check anything else. It rained all weekend. =/

Can somebody please post how to take it out and properly plug it so there isn't anymore check engine light issues? Or link to a thread that already explained how to do it.:thumb:

that thread looks good. im glad i dont have to have my car go in emissions any more. when we bought my car we only had to do it once and my mom asked when we would have to come in again. and they said we didnt because the car was a certain # years old.

When is the last time you had your emissions done? Because i also have a '97 and i had to this year... I'd love to not have to anymore because i have to take off my front end for the people to do it here
