1G What is this thing?

Can i just run a line around instead of having this thing?

Also when i boost leak test my car, @ 10psi air starts blowing out the top of this as fast as i can put it in and it smells like fuel. There are only 2 lines hooked up and i lined them with red in the picture. the bottom has a blue rubber cap on it.

I have no clue what it is, what it does, and how i can fix this issue. Please help me my car is suffering

my catch can had an accident, so now I'm just running the lines that went to it down behind my motor to the ground.

Oil catch can?

I have seen some new oil catch cans online. If replacing these will in prove anything like excessive by blow by on teh valve/cam cover?
