I found a 1996 Spyder GST for $4900. It is a 5-speed, 91,000 miles on it, white with black top, 17 inch rims. There is 80% tread left on the tires but the guy has a brand new never used set of tires for the car that is included in the price. He says the top doesn't leak, but it had a rip and was repaired, but he didn't like it, so he bought a brand new oem top that isn't installed and is included with the car. He says the interior is really nice, everything inside works, but you have to help the top up a little bit. He doesn't know if the timing belt has been replaced or not. It has a 3 inch cat back exhaust, 16G turbo, apexi intake and a greddy bov. He says it runs great and has no issues. He says he just wants to get rid of it because he doesn't drive it and its taking up space in his garage, which sounds good to me because he kept it garaged at least. he also said that the paint is good on it, no clear coat coming off, no body damage or dents. I'm going to check for crankwalk be looking at the clutch pedal when I turn left. I have been talking to the guy over the phone and I'm suppose to go drive for 4 hours to go and buy it if it checks out on Thursday. Does it sound good? Should I ask him or check for other things on it?

its a great deal buy it and take the head off, i have a friend who had a bent valve and it snapped, buy the car and get a new head.... the dsmlink and cams alone are worth the price of the car if your not going to let me know because i will drive down there with my trailer and buy the car for myself. im up in north jersey...
 
Sounds good man...I happen to have a 1g fwd tranny laying in my garage to. I paid 800 for a gsx once, was auto and had blown head gasket so 700ish doesn't sound half bad at all. I just paid 300 for a 89 eclipse shell (and i mean shell).
 
Don't give up man! Those pistons are not burnt, they have been burning oil probably just from bad valve stem seals. And with a stock headgasket, refurbished head, and some little odds and ends that car would probably run great! I say keep it man, it's not that much work at all. And there is no way to tell that reverse doesn;t work until the car is running. My 1g would grind into reverse everyday and never went out. It's just those typical 1g transmissions.

Don't let people scare you into thinking it's going to be a disaster. From what I can see on your pics, that car isn't that much work or money. That was a screaming deal on a great car and you'll miss it the second it's gone.
 
i wont even try to go into reverse though. i never seen a car where it wont even attempt to go in gear when motors off and when started it would go in.

man she must have heard me talking about possible parting her out cause i cant find the dam key and i need to get it out of the shop tonight and the wheel is locked just my luck
 
Yes they have emotions also... Mine was the same way when i was looking for a new car and wanting to sell mine when my youngest was born. Still have really good offers and had the title out to sale it and i started cring no joke and told him he will just need to leave.

Well I'm glad you didn't make the mistake I did with my first DSM..... lost 2 gand on her and after I sold it I wanted it back right away.
Oh and how much your whole turbo set up cost you?
 
My whole turbo conversion was roughly 800 after it took 2 yrs to peice everything together. And then went into it and had a couple parts here and there that had to be buaght.
 
It's modded and hes selling it. That does not give me a lot of hope unless you are buying it and looking to part it out and save money on part cost.

The problem I have with spending 5 grand on a premodded car is, most likely he ####ed something up along the way... that's a given. It was more than likely beat to shit since it's modded. You don't know

As well as this guy is obviously a cheap ass since he isn't running a real tuning solution even though he has a 20g, so did he even upgrade to a better head gasket or at least replace it? Did he cheap out and not get ARP head studs and is trying to push too much for the stock 2g head studs to handle?

I'm also a bit worried he listed all the crap but no injectors, either he forgot or he is an idiot.

There is no mention of maintenance anywhere.. at all.

Turbos don't really have a break in period, all though most people are weirded out by the idea of beating on them brand new.

If you are really interested get a compression test and ask about the maintenance.
 
That just depends on how rare DSM's are in your area. But im not thinking its worth 5k. I would pay that much for it in kansas and dsm's are very rare here. Mods on a car doesnt sell a car. Its good that it has the gm maf. Thats a start. But i would offer 3k.
 
Neither one of them is worth the asking price really. They are poorly or incompletely modified. I would try and get him down to 4-4200 on the 2g if its running good. Or around 3 on the 1g.

Either way you go your probably looking at another thousand to get a real tunning device and fix all the little piddly shit that needs to be corrected. I.E. headstuds, recirculation kits, gaskets, fluids, etc etc.
 
The 2g said it has 750 injectors but he doesn't know about he studs. When I test drove it it pulls hard and doesn't seem like it has any problems. Only thing that was a red flag was that he said he turned the boost up to 20psi and the car was too quick. I'm worried that having it on 20 even for a few minutes could have damaged it?. I'm working on getting it down to 4.2 right now. Like I said it doesn't grind or smoke or anything so I need you guys input



Edit* got him down to 4.2 from 5. He traded his old car for the talon he told me it has some internal work but he doesn't know what. He knows the injectors are 750 and everything he listed but he doesn't know what the previous owner did are for are internal
 
the car is worth whatever your willing to pay for it. 4500 doesnt sound that bad. id get a mechanic to look at it just in case theres any glaring issues you may have missed. im a firm believer in looking at a car on a rack before i buy it. you can learn alot once its up in the air, just my two cents.
 
I know I'm new here I have a 90 gsx with a 2g maf that honestly doesent look like a chevy 3.5 maf on the 95 it looks like the stock 2g maf sensor I may be wrong but look close it looks flat and an oval like stock 2g if I'm wrong sorry new here but I kinda know alot about chevy and that don't look like it to me

It does have a 2g maf but closer to the intake manifold you can kind of see a gm maf. Why would the guy keep the 2g maf though?
