I found a 1996 Spyder GST for $4900. It is a 5-speed, 91,000 miles on it, white with black top, 17 inch rims. There is 80% tread left on the tires but the guy has a brand new never used set of tires for the car that is included in the price. He says the top doesn't leak, but it had a rip and was repaired, but he didn't like it, so he bought a brand new oem top that isn't installed and is included with the car. He says the interior is really nice, everything inside works, but you have to help the top up a little bit. He doesn't know if the timing belt has been replaced or not. It has a 3 inch cat back exhaust, 16G turbo, apexi intake and a greddy bov. He says it runs great and has no issues. He says he just wants to get rid of it because he doesn't drive it and its taking up space in his garage, which sounds good to me because he kept it garaged at least. he also said that the paint is good on it, no clear coat coming off, no body damage or dents. I'm going to check for crankwalk be looking at the clutch pedal when I turn left. I have been talking to the guy over the phone and I'm suppose to go drive for 4 hours to go and buy it if it checks out on Thursday. Does it sound good? Should I ask him or check for other things on it?

Well like i said before im almost sure that the stock injectors are blue top. Ive got 3 sets in my garage and they are all blue top. But also somebody with more exsperince could correct me if i was wrong please. But looks pretty good from your pictures. I want it :)

I say that was a screaming deal man. I payed considerably more for a car with a blown engine. I would take the head to a shop to have it cleaned and checked. You can clean the gunk off the bottom of the valves, but the valve recesses are where you need the cleaning the most. And a wire wheel will take forever on that carbon build up. Been there before.

From here those valves look to be in good shape. Pour some water into the ports and see if it leaks through the valves. Dirty but straight valves should have very very little to zero leaking. Overall that head looks to be in very decent shape. Good find! :D
 
ok got the head pulled man what a pain the the ass. i couldnt get it off the corner of the header was catching that bracked that wraps around the timing belt area. and with the studs aswell it had to come straight up .

i dont see any valve contact on heads cylinder walls have a little bit of wear but dont look to bad for 145,000miles

i try and post some more pictures later cant find my camera charger.

there what looked to be a some type of powersteering or something line behind motor under intake that wasnt attached to anything . any one know what im missing? i try and post pictures later on or in the moring.

anyone have a parts list and cheapest place to buy them just want to get it up and runing i know im going to need a quite a bit of rubber hoses what else do i need to replace? i guess new head gasket, timing belts, water pump probable be a good idea.

just dont want to put to much money in it like to put no more then 400 to get it runing and go from there. since im not 100% sure whats up with transmission . but so far everything except possible injectors has been what he said.
 
Well the hose may possibly be a power steering hose. Look at the steering callum at the fire wall and see if there is a supply a return hoses hookes to the steering collum. Pics would be best. But if your goin to do a timing belt you might as well want to do the oil pump, water pump, timing belt and tensioner.
 
burnt? i dont follow what would cause that? i thought they looked fine other then the little bit of cross hatching worn threw on the intake side
 
i take new ones tomarrow it was just alittle bit of carbon i used shop vac to clean anti freeze out of cylidner then hit it with a coat of wd40 so it proable just the oil shining plus poor lighting . still not sure what to do part it or do you think i could get it running for less then 300-400? id like to get it runing drive for a few month and hopefully sell and made 100 or so off it and put that money towards a gsx or tsi awd. do you think that would be possiable would this tsi sell for at least 1500? body show it age but i think i can clean it up interior other then 1 visor and the roof is starting to drop it will clean up to pretty close to new. new burns in seat that i could see.
 
doing the timing belt really isnt very hard. and theres no point in pulling the motor just for a timing belt. just follow vfaq and you will get it done. also if you need a video there is a couple on you tube that walk you through the steps. also you could part that car out and make atleast double of what you paid for it. dsm link and them camshafts alone will get you near the 700 mark. pull the head take out the camshafts fill each port with gasoline and see if any valves leak. you can find used heads all day for a decent price. good luck with the build. also if i was in your shoes i would have definately bought the car for 750.

I payed $770 for mine with 134000 miles on it but its making a weird ticking noise sounds kind of like the lifters almost..... my bodies got almost perfect paint just a couple dents on the passenger side with some rust. but personally I think you got a great deal, you should fix it and drive it for awhile. I'd kill for a turbo on my eclipse gs.
 
If you're talking about the hose you're holding and the one next to it, those are a/c lines to the compressor.

That looks just like the line that i oulled off my steering collum whenbi did my ps delete. Does it have tha ac in it. Cus thats a good point to?

Since you don't have the need for the 280 cams, sell them and use the money to get that biotch running. Use the stock cams out of the other head.

i was thinking the same as you. i tried to post it on this site but i dont have enough post to do so. ended up posting on the local cragslist for $250 is that a decent price ?

hopefully i wont get in trouble but if anyone is intrested in the 280 cams i can send pictures i have a ebay account with 100% positive seller feedback and im on other message boards as well with all positive feedback

I would think thats a good price being that brand new 272's are almost 300-4000 i would totally bye them if they were 272's

yup i have to look in the car he gave me 2 belt on timing belt and the other i think he said balancing belt but he said i would need one more belt i think i still need to buy a new idler pulls if they have them

is the headgasket on it toast? it has never been run since it was put on only torque down would putting a coat of the copper spray on it be ok or would that just be a bad idea

Ya i found out just how much work it is..... whole new bottom end because the pistons in a 4G63 n/t cant handle a turbo plus injectors bigger fuel pump, ecu, manifold, oil pan, bov, etc.......its going to be awhile before I can get the whole set up.

As long as your not running to much boost it is ok. Im setting good at 7 psi. Still running strong. But i dont abuse the car either.
 
Seems like a good deal even buying and parting out!

think im going to end up going that route. i really do want a dsm weather eclipse,talon, or laser but i think this one isnt the one.

i just dont want to put money in the motor knowing right now it wont go in reverse. if the body was in better shape i probable would but i could end up having more money wrapped up in it then its worth. just no my style LOL

think im going to part it out hopefully the after market stuff will sell rather quickly and get my money back out then if i get another one in the further i might have a few spare parts . if i get the money out of the aftermarket stuff im thinking about keeping the block and fix it up if i can get at least $800 out of the after market stuff

i have the dsm link v3 lite software and the full throttle clutch less shifting wire and the obd to usb cable just not %100 sure how to double check and make sure the it does in fact have the programed ecu with out the car runing would hate to sell it not knowing 100% if its all there but hate to give it away to.
sony head unit and a sub box with amp
cylinder head with valves
one of those bars that go across the car to stiffen the chassis forget what there are called but you put them in engine bay and in the trunk on the shock towers .


then the body both the doors are ding and rust free just crappy paint then the two front seats will clean up to pretty much brand new so both seats and doors should hopefully bring in at least 100-200 for them
