I found a 1996 Spyder GST for $4900. It is a 5-speed, 91,000 miles on it, white with black top, 17 inch rims. There is 80% tread left on the tires but the guy has a brand new never used set of tires for the car that is included in the price. He says the top doesn't leak, but it had a rip and was repaired, but he didn't like it, so he bought a brand new oem top that isn't installed and is included with the car. He says the interior is really nice, everything inside works, but you have to help the top up a little bit. He doesn't know if the timing belt has been replaced or not. It has a 3 inch cat back exhaust, 16G turbo, apexi intake and a greddy bov. He says it runs great and has no issues. He says he just wants to get rid of it because he doesn't drive it and its taking up space in his garage, which sounds good to me because he kept it garaged at least. he also said that the paint is good on it, no clear coat coming off, no body damage or dents. I'm going to check for crankwalk be looking at the clutch pedal when I turn left. I have been talking to the guy over the phone and I'm suppose to go drive for 4 hours to go and buy it if it checks out on Thursday. Does it sound good? Should I ask him or check for other things on it?

Obvious cookie cutter internet scam. OP, Bud92gsx, you guys need to educate yourselves if there was even any question in your minds about this. It "may" be a scam? Want to buy a bridge? Western Union only, refund guaranteed if you aren't satisfied, LOL.

Just think about it this way... if it's too good to be true, then it probably is. Less than $3000 for that car? Too good to be true. Under $3000 for ANY GSX other than a pile of metal with a wheel, is probably too good to be true.

Craig's list always warns never to deal with people trying to ship a car or wire transfer money. He was trying to ship you a car from a company that doesn't ship cars ;)

Look familiar?

found on Craigslist scam-warning page.

Common scam:

2003 CBR1100 Super Blackbird-2750.oo

First of all,
please DO NOT REPLY to this e-mail if you don't have the full amount ($2800),
or if you don't intend to be serious.

I'm from Terre Haute, IN, craigslist ad was posted nationwide this is why it appeared in your city.
This is the second time when I try to sell this bike, 1st time I tried Autotrader.
Because all time I use only 100% safe methods, I sent the bike through Autotrader to a buyer from Texas.
He lost his job and was unable to complete our transaction, they didn't refund him the shipping fee so now I have the bike sealed at Autotrader terminal in TX ready to be delivered to the next buyer free of charge even in case of non-purchase .

Private collector purchased & owned since 2003. Exacty as shipped to the dealer, never received "new vehicle" set up and service, never had fuel in the tank.... Truly, as NEW!!!! Stored and displayed in a temperature & humidity controlled showroom. This is the best & last year imported of the fastest production Honda Motorcycle ever made. If you have ever dreamed of owning a Blackbird, do not miss this one. This is the newest, best and finest example of a Blackbird available anywhere, without question.
VIN: JH2SC35003M600113.

I will take in consideration only those buyers who are really interested in buying the bike, to be sure that I don't waste my time with endless discussions.

If you are ready for this purchase let me know and I will explain how we can complete this deal.

Like I said, cookie cutter, they literally change a few words and the vin# (if they offer one)and one of the oldest i-scams there is.

I actually have a few really big, really fake cashiers checks from humoring online scams. It costs them money to fed-ex me a fake check, and it costs me about 15 seconds responding, then deleting subsequent emails....so I support fedex, LOL

I got my TSI 96 for 2900. I considered it a scam... but when I got to him in person, he threw me the title and told me its mine as is.

It WAS a deal til i started learning to drive manual and I messed up the clutch, but none the less it was real.

Never heard of Autotrader shipping vehicles. Something smells funny... best bet, call autotrader see if they do, and give the vin.

Never mind. ^ says it all

I like having online-cons send the fake cashiers check directly to the FBI online-crime division, thinking its my home addy. Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) | Home
so they
A) don't have my address,
B) mail evidence directly to the only place in the US that might do something about it.

I hate to say it but its kind of a hobby of mine anymore, whenever I try to sell something online through craigslist, anyone who's sold a car or motorcycle there knows what I'm talking about. I've got fake checks ranging from $2k to $9k.

his response on me asking him to call me:

Here is how it works if you never used Autotrader.
You send me your full name and your full shipping address so I can initiate the transaction.Autotrader contacts you with further details regarding the payment and shipping process. You submit the payment to Autotrader, Autotrader confirms the payment and asks me to release the shipment. I ship the car which should be at your door within 5 business days. You have a 3 days inspection period before you confirm the deal and Autotrader forwards the payment to me or you cancel the deal and get your money back .
Basicly Autotrader holds your money safe until you confirm that this car is what you have been expected and you want to buy it. It is not a sight unseen deal.
On the other hand I can ship my car knowing Autotrader has your money and you won't "disappear" with my eclipse. We are both covered. Sorry for the long emails I have tried to touch all bases .

Thank you, Robert Garcia .

His response to me making the drive to inspect the car:

Gregg ,
I did explained from my 1st email, that shipping is free, you will be able to physically see and inspect this car
for 3 days before you decide .
If you don't like it, you will let me know and they will pick-up the car from you and send it to me, again you will not be charged for anything besides the money transfer fee and the car's price .

If you still want to make this purchase, email me your complete name and shipping address so I can prepare the papers and you will be contacted by Autotrader during the next hours with all details regarding this transaction .
Robert .

Sucks this is a scam

^^^ you actually accept checks when selling big items?

Not checks but certified funds aka a bank note. I had been given a fake certified check before too. But I clearly state that nothing will be released until the check is verified and cleared. Had someone try to scam me on my old CBR900RR. Guy actually handed me the bogus cashiers check, and when I called the bank to verify it they could not. I told him I would have to take it to the bank for verification and we could finish it up after the funds are verified and released and he was more than welcome to come with. He claimed he would follow me there and then disappeared. Lucky I had his plate number and he was later arrested for forgery and bank fraud. It was not the first time he tried that.

I would ask the guy for his physical address incase you have any problems with the vehicle, then I would ask to physically inspect the car prior to giving anyone any money. Then after he never contacts you again because he is a scam artist, you will know. Cover your ass. But I sent you an email with a few local GSX's in the chicago area. They are known legit vehicles. Not 2600, but not overpriced either. GL with your search for a car.

Scam i seen this on dallas/fort worth craiglist and he goes by robert garcia.
And they post the same thing for a 2003 evo 8 for same price it was red, and he said that the car was in aslaska, and his name was robert garcia totally a scam

I live in chicago. Tell him you have a buddy who wants to check out the car for you. I really would go check it out for you.LOL and see what he says then. I guarantee you this a scam though.

There is a lot of people knowing its a scam so there is no point in even responding to the ad. This has been posted in MN before too.

I almost bought one for 450$ but i was on my way out of town. Talked to the guy on the phone and two days later on my way back called again. Guess what, someone else beat me there. Said it was already sold. Go figure!:banghead: Had a bad tranny.

I wrote back to him, making a bluff saying i would be in Chicago this sat for business, and would look at the car and if i liked i would send him all my info and cash for the car, and drive the car back to Wisconsin my self so he wouldn't have to ship, needless to say i didn't receive a response back, LOL.

thank you btw, if the car wasn't a auto i woulda been very interested...and i did request to add on fb so i can see any deals.

Got My 98' TSI AWD for $1500....Spun bearing but still hell of a deal. Communication is key though, I talked to the guy on the phone and through text messages. The autotrader thing is def a scam though seeing how I've sold a car on autotrader and I seem to remember me having to meet up with the guy to give him the car....not shipping it to an "Autotrader terminal" LOL

scam trick is if there is ever any colored lettering for an email it is usually a scam and its usually under dealer not owner and any shipping deals or them saying im overseas and they can ship it for free is fake
