Ok guys, I’m new to the dsm’s and recently bought a 98 gsx with some questionable work under the hood. I took my exhaust manifold off and saw this ring in between the manifold and turbo. Anyone know what it is or could be. Thanks.

So I should put it back in? Does it actually need it if I get some good gaskets? Appreciate ur reply, thanks.
Did you notice the lip it sits in? If you have it stock yes put it back. If you port things then no you can't use it.

I’m only speculating, but if neither the turbo hot side housing nor the manifold have the proper recess anymore to hold the ring properly, it would likely provide no benefit, and potentially hurt performance or worse, interfere with the turbo and cause damage rattling around loose.

A sealing ring that someone forgot to remove apparently. You shouldn't be using a FP Race manifold on a 16G anyway...a turbo that small can't possibly put a large-runner, merged-collector manifold to use.

Good to know LOL I got a FP manifold that came with my car brand new. I put it on for the hell of it with my 14b. Probably explains why my 14b doesn't spool until 3k RPM. Engine is also a 2.3l

One reason I'm sure- you wouldn't put 288 cams on a 14B car so a Race manifold really has no business being there either.
