what can i paint my exhaust manifold with?

what can i paint my exhaust manifold with? i painted it with some high temp auto paint but within 2-3 hours it started cracking and pealing off... would a powder coat hold up to the heat??? and will it stay looking good and not fade or change over time?

Try the high temp flat-black 1200 degree paint they sell at autozone.
I am currently running this paint on my heat shield though, and i didn't let it settle for a good time but it is holding good. I plan to re-paint it correctly later on.
Not sure how well it will stay on the exh mani itself, give it a try.

I bought some high grade BBQ paint. 2000 degree resistance. Just to make sure that it could handle my exhaust temp.

same thing happened to me. i was not happy when it all started peeling off. so i sanded it down and bought some header wrap.

twenty something bucks and there you go, it has function too,
plus you dont have to take the manifold off again.

i say go for it

what type of exhaust mani do you have? its said that tubular manifolds tend to get hotter than cast

+1 on the bbq paint tho, that should hold up well. I'm going to try that

If you want a decent paint job...avoid the store bought paints. Powder coating isn't meant for high-heat applications (like exhaust mani's). Ceramic coating is the way to go. It's for high-heat applications good to about 2000F. It's perfect for exhaust mani's and only costs about $100. Check out Performance Coatings

ive paid the $100 to ceramic coat stuff in the past just to watch my $100 chip and peel away after a month of heat cycles. i live just down the coast from RRE and their secret to high temp black is... are you ready? $4.50 a can RUST-OLEUM BAR-B-QUE BLACK from home depot, they buy it by the case and it looks stealth and holds up to the heat cycles, it even prevents corrosion too!

the tial 38mm was sprayed by RRE before they shipped it, it was silver...

I have the high temp paint from advan. auto parts on the stock cast man.
on my gvr4 with a evo3. Four months an going strong.

I used duplicolor high temp, DE 1651 Cast Coat Iron. Love how it looks so far on the other stuff and its held up.

I can't speak for everybody's success (or lack thereof) with ceramic coating or high-temp paint. I can say that properly preparing your surface is key to a successful paint job. I have ceramic coated headers, that have been on my vehicle (non-DSM) for almost two years...no issues.

I don't like spray paint because I just suck at properly applying paint....

my local autozone sells 2000 degree paint made specifically for auto use (or at least labeled that way).

I haven't used it on a header, but i havent had any issues on other high temp things.

I cant recall who makes it...i think its VHT

I have spent a lot of money with performance coating, I live about 20 minutes away from them. I have done their procedure to cure the ceramic coating on by heat cycling the parts, but in the end it still flakes off and doesn't last like it should. Turbo'd cars are just hard on everything. The best luck I have had is with some of the 2000* Rustolem paint. I have used that stuff a lot and it holds up great. Also, I have noticed that if you put a few heavy coats of paint on it likes to crack and flake off, but if you do a couple light coats it last for a lot longer.

I know this much Jet-Hot ceramic coating is the sh*t i bought some Hooker headers from them already coated for my 80 Z/28 & still no issuse's & i've owned them for 5+ years & still looks new.
