What if it is not a boost leak?

I had a boost leak at my throttle body , fixed it. Also the bov flange gasket was leaking, fixed it for the most part it leaks the slightest of little bit. My injectors were leaking, new seals on that. A repair in the plastic part of the uicp was leaking repaired that. So my question to you guys is, what can it be if it is not a boost leak? I swapped bcs thinking it could be that. Not too much of a difference. In first gear I am getting 6-7 pounds. But I do notice when WOT it slowly rises. And I mean SLOWLY. Itll go to 6-7 then move slow to 8. Does it sound like a leak if its moving slow? What else could it be? I have a brand new type s on its way to my house. Just so I can be sure of no leaks. And I've been wanting it.

If you are questioning a leak then you need to do a proper boost leak test. It seems you have the experience to do one and my guess is that you did not perform one after assuming your leaks are fixed. Remember, soapy water is your friend, bubbles are not...kill the bubbles!!!

I did in fact do a test after I sealed the leaks. And went outside and did another one just to be sure because I hate when threads are posted with these kind of problems and no blt is performed . The bov gasket leaks just a tiny tiny bit after I've rtv''d and also I saw that the biss screw is leaking a little. I just couldnt see how those can make that much of a differece. But I've been wrong before. Probably wont be the last time.

A little leak can go a long way. You'll want to get a new o ring or try lubing up the current one if it's still in good condition. If you are going to replace it, a temporary fix is to fill the BISS hole with RTV. Make sure you will be able to remove the RTV before doing that however.

Also note that 1st gear shouldn't be used to judge your boost. There is not enough load on the motor to allow for much boost to occur. If you want to check your PSI level, do it in 3rd gear.

Good point. I was doing that to see if it was different gears to verify the information I am providing. 3rd gear also get about 7-8 pounds. I have began to wonder about my wastegate flapper maybe not sealing correctly but is there any way of knowing? I have a e316g a few days ago that I want to put in but I do not want the same problems so I am trying to track down the culprit

The best way to check is by taking the turbine housing off and visually inspecting the flapper and the seat with the actuator both attached and removed.

However with the actuator rod removed, you can check to see if there if the flapper will close any further. If it's fully shut against the seat and the actuator rod keeps it in that location (attach the rod) then it's possible there are some significant cracks at the seat where the flapper seals out the exhaust.

Cracks are common and will develop over time of constant heat cycling. If this is turbo related then the 16g will fix the issues assuming there isn't anything else.

Did you get the wastegate ported on the 16g to prevent boost creep?

Not to barge in but that leak at the bov flange came on really quick. What kind of pressure is your line regulated at, and how much boost is inside the intake when the leak starts to bubble? Seems to me its at a very low boost (2~3psi). If its that low then that "small" leak @ 7psi will be even larger. That with the biss screw leak could cause you to not boost more then what your seeing. It also could be covering up another leak that don't show up until higher boost levels.

What LIQUiDx is saying sounds pretty logical. I would pull the turbo off and inspect the housing for cracks. Wouldnt hurt to check your manifold as well..

Hmm. Well the thing with pulling the turbo is if I was pulling it,I want to be putting the 16g on. I don't know though. I mean it would be the right thing to do

Whats wrong with putting the 16g on? Do you not have all things necessary to do so. I guess which really comes out to be just the oil feed line.

Nothing is wrong with putting it on. I just dont want to put it on and still have the problem. I guess I will never know unless I do. I have a ss oil line for it and and adapter for the oil feed on the turbo so it wont take as long.

Im just trying my best to eliminate everything that it could be first.

When you do a blt do you spray the soapy water over all of the piping? You could have small holes in the inter cooler, pipes, etc. When I do a blt I SOAK the entire intake track/manifold. I found a ton of small leaks all over the place when I had the stock pipes. They wouldn't allow me to hit more then 11psi. And to fix the leaking Bov flange I just use a small bead of rtv. I could never get the gasket to seal without it...

This may be a turbo/waste gate issue in the end but fixing all boost leaks will improve everything about the car. Installing a 16g wont hurt or help a boost leak. If you have a turbo and want to put it on you can.

my BISS seems to have a tiny leak on it but why in the world wouldnt it screw out ive tried a magnet, ive tried a needle nose, ive tried screaming at it. the thing just spins and spins and i cant pull it...

Did you actually TEST for a pre-turbo exhaust leak or are you just eyeballing it?
