BOV boost leak? What is this?

Ok so my bov has looked like this for awhile now, and Ill be installing my new greddy in the next few days but. I was just wonder wtf is this stuff coming out of the bottom of my BOV? Is this sealant or something? And could this be why my car acts weird under full boost? Thanks you.

It looks like RTV. I think somebody was getting a leak before you and tried to block it off.

It dont think its RTV, but I could be wrong. And I know the owners before me didnt even know what they were driving, and did not mod the car at all. Anyone else know what the crap is?

It looks like a sealant of some sort. Maybe it was a "repair" done by a mechanic.

well what does i t feel like? is it hard like rtv or is it gooey like a boogie? whats it smell like? does it smell like grease or does it smell like a boogie? what's it taste like? does it taste like candy or does it taste like a boogie? if it looks like a boogie, and it smells like a boogie, and it tastes like a boogie, then it is probably a boogie. otherwise it's probably RTV.....

Damn, your car is going to feel much better with a new blow off valve. I bet you loose a lot of boost from that valve. Mine leaked after 6psi, my car felt worlds faster after I installed my greddy rz.

I wouldn't worry about what that goop is, looks like some kind of sealant. You'll have a new BOV on there soon. Are you installing it with hard piping or a stock piping adapter flange?

well if it is soft and gooey then it probably isn't RTV. it might be something like shoe goo. i haven't used that stuff in a while but if memory serves correct shoe goo has the dried consistency of rubber cement. and it is kind of clearish like that stuff.

as for who in their right mind would do something like that. some jack a$$ mechanic that probably charged $50 to fix a problem with the BOV popping out under boost by using whatever he had available to seal it up and then tightening down the hose clamp.

well sense im on a budget right now im just going to use a flange, and i got the bov for free from my recruiter. But as soon as i get enough money im gonna get some hard pipes. I just gotta find a good deal on one. Any ideas?

now that you point that out, i think it might be, or the hose is just coming off. What ever dip shit mechanic worked on this car before really screwed me. Some college girl owned this before me and probably didnt know shit about cars.

Can the Greddy idea and just find yourself a nice Evo IX stock BOV and be done with it. All metal, no flanges to leak, no adjustments to make.

I feel ya, i did the same thing. I'm using an adapter flange right now with stock piping. I don't get any leaks at stock boost levels. (like 13-14psi) I got my flange off ebay for like 25 bucks. In the stock piping there should be a rubber o-ring type thing around the stock blow off valve to help seal it. You need to reuse that otherwise you'll get another leak.

Now that I mention that ring, that goop stuff might be what they used to seal the bov because they lost that seal. Check to make sure that seal is still there, if now I would get one from the dealer or buy a hard upper pipe.

Edit: It's called the bypass valve seal, it's not listed on JNZ, it might come with the stock bov.

Jesus Christ, 100 dollars for the stock valve?

Here's some intercooler piping and it's nicely priced, flanged for greddy and beaded also. not sure I'd use the clamps and couples but the piping is what matters.
