what kind of BOV is this.

So this bov came installed in my car, cant figure out what kind it is, or who manufactured it?
the only writing on it is ZEN & made in the USA, that's all.
i hope someone on here have seen them before, and can identify the manufacturer

i did some research, and all i can find is that it ZEN was discontinued while back, i am not sure if ZEN was the manufacture, i tried looking ZEN up, but their is no pictures that look like mine..it might be a knockoff, but it seems pretty legit, sounds very loud, and it holds a lot of boost. used to run 28psi, now only 21psi, i don't know if knockoff bov can hold that mush.

Probably an old knockoff of an RFL. A buddy had one that looked a kind of similar to that.

those RFL bov have bigger head on them that stock out, mine dose not, so far i have not seen one like this one. i am a bit lost on whether to replace it with name brand one, or keep this since don't now anything about it.

Obviously if it says ZEN and Made In USA on the valve, it's not some type of knockoff...just something that is no longer produced.

I'm sure you're aware, but the weld holding the flange to the piping is one of the worst I've ever seen. I'd do regular boost leak tests to verify that a new leak doesn't pop up along the edge of the BOV flange and the intercooler pipe.

yea i've realized the bad welding around the flange, am have to check and make sure their is no leaks. so far so good, the car runs fine, but i defiantly need to check for boost leak.

You can even just take some JB Weld and use it like a body filler to smooth out the roughness of the weld a bit; it will benefit you by sealing any possible leaks which may occur in low spots, and you can just re-touch the area black paint when you're all done and it will look 100 times better.

Not to jack your thread but I have a similar identification issue with a BOV:

I'm guessing ebay knock off HKS SSQV but I've NEVER seen one like this before. It works great, but the recirculation fitting is screwed in (as can be seen from the threads). It also requires you to keep the venting piece inside when you do it and that's the only way it'll stay in (with both inside). Just curious.

^ Some sort of HKS knockoff with subtle differences to get around copyright laws.

I'm not a huge fan of the push-pull type valves for journal bearing turbos....by design they hold pressure great but there's an obvious lag in opening as the air from within the piping isn't working to force the valve open under vacuum as it would with a standard piston-type valve. I wouldn't put much trust in a knockoff push-pull valve to work as intended.

And no worries, I use 1g BOVs or Synapse BOVs on journal bearing turbos. Just got this as part of a trade and I saw it in action on my buddy's car (worked just as it should have). Curiosity got the best of me

it dose look like a knock off HKS BOV, however, i still cant figure out whether mine is a knock off or not...i know its not made in Chain like most knock off parts. Mine says made in the USA. but you might never know, hopefully someone can conform it.

It's actually a sought after valve. Came about LONG before the RFL. Zen is the name of the company that made it. They vanished in around 2000-2001 from what I remember. Considered one of the loudest valves at the time and comparable to the RFL which oddly came along just after ZEN went out.

To be honest the RFL is a knockoff of the one you have.
