What does compressor surge sound like?

I heard people say it is the fluttering that some BOVs make, but Id just like to know for sure. Im running a big 16g and hks ssqv. Thnx

When you start the car up in the morning and start to move you will here it. Go through first like normal and when you are in 2nd right before boost comes on (around 5-8psi in the gauge) push in the clutch. You will here a flutter.

Or make your BOV harder and you will deff. hear it. Just make sure you loosen it back up after you hear the noise.

Don't try to recreate it, you might break something. Under pressure high enough, compressor wheel blades have been known to chip/break. Pressure has nowhere to go and goes back out through where it came from, making the compressor wheel to ABRUPTLY stop--that's what happens.

Umm, just make sure you don't comfuse compressor surge with BOV flutter.

It does sound like a BOV, but is deeper. You can also tell because the car falls on its' face. How do I know this? I had my BOV tightened to stop it whistling and the car drove like crap. I loosened it up and all was better.

It honestly sounds like pigeons in your engine bay.

Just pull the manifold source line off the BOV to hear what it sounds like.
