Just get yourself a 6 bolt block used for about $100 with a crank (I got one) Do the 2g pistons/ 1g rods, and reuse your head, with ARP head studs and a MLS headgasket. You will have maybe at most $700 into this setup and you will be fine. For the 7 bolt head to fit the 6 bolt block you have to drill the bolt holes for the studs out to fit the thicker bolt.

If its a rod knock and it hasnt torn up the rod you might get away with haveing the crank turned and getting new rod/main bearings.

Mine sounded similar to that before I had it rebuilt. The original diagnosis was rod knock but when we pulled it apart we found out that my Ross (or JE..i cant remember) piston wasnt in one piece anymore and the sound was comming from the Piston ring sticking out and banging up against shit. Anyways to make a long story short Ive basically sold a kidney to get it running again/upgrading it and my car has still been down for 6 months. :(

Are you waiting for a rebuild or are you swapping in a 6 bolt. See I'm a little sketchy about rebuilding this motor, because later I dont want it to walk or spin another bearing. Thats why im think of swapping in a 6bolt. Ive read the magnus guide and the swap seems pretty easy and I can probably do it myself with some help. I would need to find a place to get a good used long block, but I would have to wait a while cause I dont have the money atm.

No I had mine rebuilt But instead of a Ross/cower comb I went with Weisco/Cower combo. I have the Warsher (sp?) 7 bolt motor so I had it rebuilt. If my car would have been a 95-early 98 model then I would have done the 6 bolt swap.(the warsher's block is diffrent from the other 7 bolt models). Why put in 10 year older technology if you dont have to?
Good luck with the motor.

Oh ok, yea im still thinking about rebuilt 7 bolt. I just dont want to spend so much on a rebuild and then it walks on me or spins another bearing.

With the magnus way it basically just drops in with some work right? I know you have to do some grinding to get the waterpump on or something. Ive read thier guide a few times and it doesnt seem that hard to do.

Ok guys here the update on this thread, turns out the talon spun a beraring and has rod knock:cry:. Im not going to bother rebuilding this motor, because it can spin a bearing again. I going to be swapping in a 6 bolt in there, the only problem is finding a good 6bolt motor. Do you guys know any places that sell good used motors? I searched ebay and found motors from this place called JDM engine depot in Kearny,NJ for a reasonable price. Im wondering if any one purchased any motors from them and if they are a good company. I researched them at bbb.org and there score was pretty good.

Don't blame the engine....spun rod bearings don't just happen on their own. Either your oil passages in the crank were blocked and didn't get cleaned, the oil pump was junk and it didn't get replaced, or the bearing tolerances weren't right from the get-go.
