What do I need to boost up too 18 psi?

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

Get them in the order listed. (i.e. Get your fuel controller before you upgrade your fuel injectors)

1. Fuel Controller
  • ECMLink You'll need a laptop to use it but will never need anything else, works like AEM EMS. Its not only a great tuning tool its also a great troubleshooting tool when the car breaks!
  • AFC Neo or you can find a used SAFC II for cheaper.

2. Fuel

3. Gauges

4. Boost Controller

Thank you so much! this is very helpful. so right now my turbo has boost creep up to 16 psi.... if i go ahead and just upgrade my fuel system then manually set my boost to 18 or so that should solve the issue right? it wont creep past 18 when it is set there will it??

Easy just get a boost controller and Turn up boost...

18psi is all you want right??

Lol

you should definitly be able to get 18 psi on your CURRENT setup. But i'd recommend getting something to tune with. you might want to go with a 02 dump to fix your boost creep

ooo i will be following this also. since i have a 95 i dont need ECM link? just DSMlink?

Money is an issue. but, i was just going to tune with the SAFC II because those are available for 200 or so. but I would rather not risk fuel cut off and upgrade my pump/injectors. but nobody answered my question! LOL will my boost creep go away if I just set my boost higher than it creeps?

And Gofer, for that rewire kit, is this the procedure I would use to install it? http://www.vfaq.com/mods/pump-rewire-1GFWD.html

What? No, wrong. 18psi on a evo3, even a 14b is running lean on stock injectors and fp.

OP- there's tooooons of info on this site, search, read and read some more. I'd suggest saving your pennies and getting v3lite. By the time you buy a safc and logger you've could have gotten v3lite for a little more.

If the turbo only creeps to 16psi then thats all it will creep to, if you turn it up to 18psi it will hold 18psi without creeping more.

I've never done a 1g FP rewire so maybe someone else with a 1g might have a different link for you, that would be what I would use though if I had a fwd 1g turbo.

I didnt say it would be safe but he could pull off 18 psi on a 14b and stock fuel. But true it would be lean

OP keep it at stock boost for now until you can save over $400 dollars for fuel mods and something to tune with.

I run lean at 15 psi on a 14b. I would only be boosting about 10 psi if you want to play it safe. $400 for ECMLink is much cheaper than a blown engine though.

your going to hit fuel cut before any major damage

Constantly trying and pushing the car o hit fuel cut is bad in itself. Obviously the ECU doesn't want that much airflow so why keep pushing it. Keep t at 15psi or lower until you get the proper fuel mods and can tune.

No one should really be turnig up the boost if you cannot log. Sure you can hit 18psi but you don't know if your are knocking and should have the boost tuned down due to being lean. Might not hit fuel cut but your motor is getting pretty damn hot internally.

Its really hard on transmissions and drivetrain parts hitting fuel cut too. It loads and unloads the drivetrain to rapidly, the shock loads are very hard on stuff.

First off link alone won't let you run 18psi on an evo3 16g your stock injectors just aren't enough no matter what tuning tool you use. You'll be way over 100% idc's.

This is what I'd recommend to safely run 18psi on an Evo3 16g

1. Datalogger or wideband o2 sensor

2. Bigger injectors

3. Boost controller

4. Safc or link

5.190lph fuel pump rewired

6. A front mount intercooler. ( i think 18psi on an evo3 would heatsoak the stock sidemount fairly easily)

This is of course considering your motor is up to par and can handle 18psi. I always do compression tests before upping the boost on any motor.

HEY BRO! im asking a question to gain knowledge! dont reply to a forum question with stupid shit like that. when I need help with something to be safe I ask the people who know. I will go through the upgrades that have been recommended and I wont blow up my engine:D

now now we are here to help, its just one of those questions that makes me kinda think. glad that your uprgrading in the right path though.

I just hate when people reply like that. its against forum rules anyways. I knew what I had to upgrade I just did not know specifics like injector size and fuel pump, safc II vs. ecmlink.... so on.

It is all based on your goals. If you just want a little more power than what you have then go with the SAFC. It's cheaper buts it's just fooling the ECU with airflow numbers. Not to mention 750cc is the max injector size you can use without issues. The bigger of I injector up to 750,the harder it becomes to tune.

ECMLink will do anything you want for now and in the future. Not to mention it has a logger as well unlike the SAFC. Feel free to throw 1600cc injectors on for possible future goals.

IMO unless you are just going for a little more than stock power you should just get the 255 walbro instead of the 190.
