Two of my friends both now own WRXs; one of them is bone stock the other has a 3" turboback. My mods are simple but few, and I just want to beat them for bragging rights :dsm: Mods are: N1 turboback, injen intake, and mbc. I have a 1G bov, but i'm waiting to install that once i get a uicp. What else will be needed to achieve this task?

You might be beating on them by now if you have turned it up alittle.

What are the WRX's running in thier cars? Are they all stock? You should be pretty close for now if they are stock.

get that UIP! after that spend a hundred bucks to get a MBC and a boost gauge, set it to 15 -16psi, and you'll be beating them no problem.

as for right now... it's probably driver vs. driver... the cars will be about even by themselves.

yeah you should be running right with them... have you checked for boost leaks??? i am slightly moded with big16 and suporting mods and when my car was tuned and running right i was running with the stis and evo's :thumb: how are you launching ???

If you want to run with WRX's then you might as well build up so you can hang with a modded STI (should you ever run across one.. ).

When I say Modded STI, I mean BPU like air filter, up-pipe, high flow cat.

You would need a minimum of a small 16G with a FMIC and full supporting mods.
Tuned and well driven...a 16G can take you into deep twelves., and a few had gone 11's.

A well built and piloted BPU STI is very capable of low to mid twelves.

Step right up to Stage 1.5 in the tuning guide. :thumb:

Wrong.

My friend ran 13.1 in his WRX as his first run ever. He's got a MBC, and an intake pipe/filter. You are going to need God, an upgraded turbo, or a really bad/stupid WRX driver.

All depends......my friend has a 3" cat back, intake & up-pipe on his wrx and he runs 13.8

btw i call bs on your friend pulling of a 13.1 in that wrx, BULL.....check out wrxtuners or any wrx forum & you will realize that you don't get a mbc for hte car b/c of hte way their ecu is designed (this is info for the '04 modelds and up, 02 and 03 had less strict ecu's hence the 04's when having their turbo's spool faster their ecu gives them extremly minimal boost, thanks subie :p )

If it was good driver vs good driver i would say:

1) for the wrx w/ a complete turbo-back you my friend will need: a complete turbo back, raise the boost (15psi), intake.
2) for the stock wrx you will need: turbo-back.....btw both cars are awd so whoever it was that said "take him off the hole" you are incorrect....

EDIT: a wrx will not need a fmic until it has an upgraded turbo (it will actually lose hp in compraison with an upgraded top-mount), a wrx w/ everything but an upgraded turbo (if it has a vf34 you must drop quite a bit of money so good luck) but if it has everything done & stock turbo it wouldnt break 12s

"Out of the Hole" is where the WRX is best. They are awesome, right until that initial rip in the gears.

He has a GSX, so the normal WRX advantage is void. What does a WRX weigh, compared to our cars?

Yes, I understnd that he has an AWD car (GSX). But the 2 are not the same from a stop. Especially not stock. The WRX is pretty damn explosive in stock form in first gear.

Standard Pkg
manual:3085lbs
auto:3140lbs

Premium Pkg
manual 3,126lbs
auto: 3,181lbs

Gear Ratio
1- 3.454:1
2-1.947:1
3- 1.366:1
4- 0.972:1
5- 0.738:1

Final drive ratio
manual: 3.9
auto: 4.11

A good driver is all you need.

agreed, good launch, and driving should be able to take them

Ok, with my configuration I've beat a WRX w/exhaust (barely by half a car length), and a stock WRX.

3" Complete Exhaust
Blitz BOV
Intake
6-bolt motor

I think its driver skill mainly, don't let off the throttle as you shift.

Learn your car more. The powerband will change from setup to setup. I have already showed you what a stock WRX has got going. It is alittle more aggressively geared. But the key advantage you have is you will not fall on your face as fast.

Don't get me wrong, you are not going to over power him. But, if you shift right, you could stay in your power better then the WRX.

Proves how much you know. I was at the track on my friend's first run EVER, in his 02 WRX running 20+psi and a racegas mix. The reason you believe they are slow, is because you don't know anyone who has a MBC at 20psi and launches at 7000rpm. That's why I said "a stupid WRX driver" would be necessary to beat it. Try again. What's "recommended" and what runs fast are two different things. Everyone cries "don't run over 16psi on a T25" all day, when the track AND dyno says 21psi on racegas IS faster. I could give a shit what you believe, most likely what you heard from the internet.

FYI, he WAS beating all of the upgraded turbo/topmount/frontmount/UTEC WRX's, along with stock STI's and EVO's on Mother's day at the track.

ya since this is newbie forums i was really wondering about higher octane gas in a DSM, i mean does it help at all? theres just so many variables with the type of gas u use and the timing and compression and shit but i mean on a stock 92 gsx would higher octane help at all?

On a stock car it would burn better. Maybe "feel" better on the seat-of-the-pants dyno. Race gas is really for the guys that can tune the car for it or turn up the boost. As for a stock car, well you can't just turn it up with a stock setup cause you don't have a MBC or a Boost Gauge in stock form.

Now if you can see what type of boost you are running and have a MBC you can use it for alittle more umph. It allows you to turn the boost up and run alittle more on the edge.

I will give the suby a thumbs up for a 20psi/7k launch. Albeit the tranny will give it a :thumbdown . Because we all know about the stock WRX clutch/tranny. :shhh:

All you need to beat these guys is some NOS seat covers. 100+ horsepower :thumb: But seriously, I know someone who has one, I'm not sure of what all he has done to it,(exaust and wheels for sure) but I do know it runs 13.2.

oooo legendary power shifting, nice way to ruin ur synchros

Powershifting - not letting off the throttle and NOT pressing on the clutch while raming it into gear.

Speedshifting - not letting off the throttle, while still using the clutch to shift.

Powershifting slaughters a tranny quite quickly, Speedshifting does a nice job on your clutch.
