What do I need to beat Rustang GT's

I got a 1997 Eclipse GSX Automatic. Check out all of my modifications in my profile. I just want to take Mustang GT's from a roll. What else is needed?


Add EGT to the list, cause I just got it in the mail a few days ago and will install soon along with porting my manifold. I'm planning on getting a blow through GM MAF setup this summer.

I think you should be there. If I'm correct stock for stcok the GT's aren't that much faster than a GSX. Could be wrong though....

Well here is my list of stuff to make it easier. I never really get a chance to race from a roll, but I guess I should go find one and try to race it. It would be nice to be able to beat up on one. What would it take to beat one with those basic mods like Exhaust and Airfilter?

Depends what year and transmission.

99+ 5 speed coupes have clipped off high 13's bone stock.

94-98's tend to stick around high 14's to low 15's.

99+ GT's have gone 12's with bolt on's, gears, and slicks.

Do you happen to have the trap speeds for those cars? I consider traps to be a better indicator of the kind of power they have especially for racing from a roll. My transmission isn't the best for racing from a stop.

I guess I'll just go out and start a fight with one and see what the outcome is.

I raced a late 90's model gt and I beat him. All I have is a K&N air filter. Mabey he was just a bad driver.

I've raced one before on the highway back when I had my T-25 and just a cat back and K&N with Upper IC pipe and 1G BOV at like 70-75 mph.

he freaking passed me up easy with a look on his face like (WTF do you think you are trying to do?)


That sucked. That is the only Rustang I have raced.

That sucks. I love to give that look. But anyways i think stangs are real slow and think that guy just had a lot of work done to it. It all depends what kind of mods. If he was bone stock you would have taken him

stangs aren't "real slow" i wonder where that idea could come from?

94-98 v6's do the quarter from low 16's to mid 17's depending on trim and from 84mph-87mph in trap speed.

99+ v6's go low 15's to mid 16's depending on trim, from 86-90mph

94-98 GT's would do about a 89-93mph trap stock

99+ GT's do a nice 98-101mph stock (i've seen as high as 103)


03 Cobra's....well..lets just say you don't want any. (mid to high 12's at 112+mph)

so i dont see stangs being 'real slow' by any means...unless you're talking older v6 models..

Eh I raced a GT for kicks and yeah, he beat me no challenge but I did get to enjoy laughing at him after he claimed he could beat any import and a Supra rolled up and kicked his ass.

they way i always look at it is he needs twice as much engine to beat you. compare our displacement : then the mustang gt's.? humm

ok any mustang before 99 except cobras stock form will do(2g gsx and gst) the cobras intake and a bov to hold you boost and you should be fine. 99+ can haul ass I raced a 2003 with just and airfilter and all I got was a bumper...from a roll I walked him a bit. The new cobras you need a good turbo and all the supporting mods to win.

Dont worry about the new gts if you can drive from a stop gsx will fair better from a roll gst. Trust me on the new ones they do haul ass becarful cause they are fast. A guy at my schools dad has a freak of nature stock cobra running 15 psi from the factory and it dynoed stock at 495 hp. I drive them all the time at work and if you have 5 speed a 2g turbo(dont know about 1gs) and an intake launch them good and shift right cause it will take some skill to win.
