Im planning on boring my block 30. over minimum, and cutting the head .020, also porting and a 3 angle valve job. im tring to get a real good low to mid range with a decent top end. What cams would be best for what im going for? Also would this be ok if later on down the road i send my turbo off and get it ported to fit a 16g wheel in it?

I say the HKS 264 Intake cam with the HKS 272 Exhaust cam, you should have a good idle with those two cams for what your looking on doing. I wouldn't go any bigger, such as the HKS 272 Intake cam with the HKS 272 Exhaust Cam.

I'd go with a pair of crower 272 cams for a nice high-mild setup for you. I am installing crower 280's in my engine but that might be way too much for you. just read through the threads and see what other people are saying.

Ok, so which would give me better low end to mid the 262 or 272? i dont want to go as high as 280..and if i get the 262 Intake and 272 Exhuast What kind of idle will i have? i dont want the stock idle. but i dont want to have it barley running.

The 264/272 cams have a higher lift/duration cam on the exhaust side than the 264/264 combo, and produce a solid increase in power throughout the powerband, emphasizing on the midrange/topend while retaining the stock-like idle, and very little low-end power loss over stock.

The 272/272 cams has a lopier idle than the 264/272. The 272/272 cams has some low end to them but they really start kicking in after 4k rpm up to about 10k rpm.

Ok, So your saying that the 264/272 setup would give me more mid to high with little decrease in low end..and that if i go 272/272 i would lose greatly in low? what would i do to increase low to mid? right now im kind of leaning toward the 264/272 if theirs no other option.

disregard my last post.

So the 272/272 would give me a little more low end then stock and still increase my mid to high? while the 264/272 keeps around close to stock low end and increase mid?

ok i think i just about understand now..but i still wonder, which would be better for me. im looking for more torque and acc without a great loss in top speed..so if im correct id want the 272/272 setup?

I forgot to add: Daily Driver

1G is right, you misinterpeted the power of the cams with the idle, the idle is similar to stock with the 264/272 and the 272/272 cams are lopier in idle

I think what your looking for and will be happy with would be the 272/272 cams

Mine's going to be a daily driver, too. After doing quite a bit of research I've decided to go with the 264/272 combo. My low end will already be decent since I'm building a 2.4- I really don't *need* anything radical, and the more stock-like residual (idle, drivability) behavior, the better. :)

Ok, I like the Lopier idle but i dont want it skipping you know? Also (off-topic) What would the compression be on my motor with the bore 30 over and cutting the head .020?? Like a 8:1?

Depends what turbo you have, but most people on a stroker blocks go with 272/272 or 280/280 because you already got 20 percent increase in torque over the 2.0L engine and they focus of mid-high powerband with the cams.

The higher degree cams are lopier but I'd beware of going higher degrees if you're staying with the 16g.

FYI, you can check out what the idle sounds like for common cams upgrades on YouTube.

ok so since im boring it out and getting all that machine work done..do you think my low end will be ok with the 272/272? i dont want to loose any low end to be honest.

Ok i understand..i beleive the 272/272 is the way i wanna go..im just wondering how it will work with all the machine work done

I'm building a 2G (7 bolt)

Crower 280/280
JMFab SMIM
Megan Tubular Manifold
Bronze Guides, 1mm over bore, multi angle, ported max, polished, nitrated valves.

Block is bored .040 over, magnafluxed, cryo treatment
Eagle H-Beam Rods, Arias .040 "custom" Stroker pistons
Eagle Forged 102mm crank.

few other things...

That is everything I have so far. Need to get my turbo yet, engine gasket kit, bigger fuel pump, and working on a megasquirt setup for tuning and some other things to get everything done...
