hey, i have a 1992 eclipse gs and i want to convert it all the way over to a turbo but i dont have the money all at once. So, I was wondering what kind of cams that i could put into a N/T car without having to modify the fuel system or put in new valve springs or any other speacial changes. i want more power. all of people with N/T put in a turbo intake cam and i was wondering about brian crower 272's in my car. Please send me some advice on whether i can do this or not. Thanks.

For the cost of cams (or less), you could get a used 14B turbo, exhaust manifold, injectors, and injector resistor box (if you really are planning on turboing it). The other stuff you'll need -- intercooler and piping, ECU, airflow sensor (non-turbo one is different), exhaust, fuel pump, knock sensor. If you run E85 you don't really need a knock sensor, just a way for the ECU to not screw up your timing when it sees there isn't one (probably a resistor or something would work). The knock sensor can be ignored easily with changes to the eprom. You'll probably want an eprom ecu and get tuning done on it, because the timing maps will be too agressive if you run gas; E85 they would be about right.

Good luck.

i haev stock N/T cams in there now. i want to know how much bigger i can go. what is the lift on your cams your selling?

I measured the lift on quite a few different cams, including Hyundai 1.8 cams and 2g turbo cams; they all seemed to be real close to the same if I remember correctly.

I really don't think different stock cams are going to make a noticeable increase in your performance. Maybe tuning with some adjustable cam gears for more overlap. Aftermarket cams may help you a little on top end, but you'd probably want to get the adjustable cam gears to tune them for a non-turbo setup. $360 for cams, a couple hundred for gears, not worth it.

You might as well put that extra money with the money of selling your car and just buy a turbo car. They are getting a lot cheaper now, 1g cars are pretty old. A nice 1ga turbo fwd should be able to be had for under 2 grand. I sold my last one (laser rs turbo 5spd) for $1500 a year ago, great condition, NO rust, 1 minor dent in the bottom of one door, with the head freshly redone and new timing components and water pump. A few years ago I sold a mint condition black 91 GST 5spd for 2600. I'm currently trying to get 1300 for a 1ga awd auto that needs a little work.

If you get a turbo car, you will have something that you can mod to 400-500+ hp later on without having to redo the engine (different pistons) and get a different transmission (n/t trannies are weaker).

ok i was just wondering becasue i was reading another thread that said the turbo intake cam in a N/t eclipse will get it more performance without having any other mods to the car.
and i am slowly building it to be a turbo car, just dont have the time or oney right now becasue i am i college.
