Please dont rip my head off for asking this if it has been covered too much. I have seen peoples opinions go both ways on this. I am debating on what cams I am going to need. My goal is 400awhp daily driven. I think that the comp 101100's or HKS 264's (maybe 264/272) or the fp1's are going to be the way to go with this turbo. Some people tell me to go 101200's or 272's or fp2's. But I am just here to get everyone's opinion. Maybe some of you wisemen can tell me whats up. Thanks.

Thank you Slowboy and I totally understand, I have dynoed many different rigs and some mods you can feel and some you cant, but I just want to know I have good cams and they can make the power when I need them too. Also you have made up my mind to get the 101200's so whenever I get my turbo on and tuned I will be coming for some cams and FMIC from you guys. Thanks for all the help, and Mayhem this was a very helpful thread and Im glad you started it. Derek

After reading all of this about 264's and 272's etc. why would you not want to go with an FPcam2X set-up from Forced Performance? I have an EVO III 16G also and I'm thinking 2X's would be sick. Why not? Please enlighten me.

Probably becuase they recommend dual springs for the X series. You can run the reg 2's with stock springs. If you have the valve springs taken care of I would defently look towards the X series.

Hey Mike in your earlier post you said if you switched from the 272's to the 200's you'd lose some idle & spend $130 more but still make the same power. Is this the right way around? I thought the HKS had the lumpier idle & cost more?

Well I made up my mind. I just bought a set of Comp 101200's. Thanks for the help guys!!

I'm still looking for everyones opinion on spring and retainer packages. What can I beat the crap out of and not have to think twice about doing it?

Hey Daren I think Slowboy meant if they put in the 272's over the comps all he gains is a lumpier idle but less power and speant more money. Pretty sure thats what he meant but Im not a 100% positive. Mayhem why do you want new springs and retainers, you can use your stock ones from what I understand unless yours are old or you want to rev really high.

Well I made up my mind. I just bought a set of Comp 101200's off of Ebay. Got them for 391.00/free shipping from atlantic speed (used to be unlimited speed). Great sellers, I bought a couple of gauges from them and shipping was always unbelievably fast. Thanks for the help guys!!

If you're already looking into springs and retainers you should have just saved up and bought the items below all together...in my opinion. This is the set-up that I will use in the near future.

FPCam2x cams...

...with this spring set-up which includes titanium retainers.

Obviously you're going to want a good set of valves (Ferrea) as well as a ported and polished head. I can't wait!

Here are your valves as well as some other pretty sick stuff.
http://www.ferrea.com/productlines.php

Good luck!
:dsm:

Just doing everything while I'm in there. I want a motor that will perform whenever I call on it and I don't want to think twice about beating the crap out of it. Why else would I have Eagle rods and Wiseco pistons for a 400hp car? 1g big rods and 2g pistons would've worked fine but I don't want to push anything or have to dig into the motor more than I have to. Just my way of doing things.

Thats a good point Mayhem, no point in having to take it apart again. Thats what im always debating on, going the cost effective route or doing it good the first time. You should have quite a setup and have no problem making 400hp. Good luck :thumb:

Just for the record... I run a pair of FP2Xs with just Manley springs, stock retainers and stock valves. I have zero valve float. And have been running this for thousands of miles now. Revs smoothly (and quickly) to redline w/ an 8500 rpm rev limit...

Fantastic cams. And I know my valvetrain can handle it.

Well I just bought a JMFab SMIM. 464.95 shipped. Really good price for the product. Can't wait to get it. Also I was told that my cams will ship out tomorrow. I'll let everyone know what I think of both products when they get here and in the car.

This will probably start a flame war.. but lets try not to do so. Things like this are why the DSM vendors here are holding back from wanting to supply tech help and answer questions. Multiple vendors helped you with this decision, yet you didnt purchase from any of them. How did the other guys answer any of your questions? will they tech you for install questions? Basically this gripe is not supporting DSMtuners. We as vendors pay to support it. Users get to use it for free, and in turn hope to buy from the Vendors supporting the forum to keep the loop going, thus having your questions answered. Think of it this way. If no one bought from any of the supporting vendors, that would cause the vendors to pull out advertising b/c it was a waste of money. That would cause the site to go down, and you no longer have your questions answered. I just dont understand how everyone on here wants Vendor help, then dont support them.

great call mark. It is something that i have noticed a lot on this board lately. very little love for us vendors that financially support this community and spend hours a day answering questions and helping people out. what a shame.

not to say there is no love. there are some great members that understand what we do and they are happy to show the same consideration.

way to go ebay racing.

Right.. And its not that I am being greedy saying you didnt buy them from SBR. But atleast you could have bought them from Speed Factor or any other site sponsoring vendor. Ebay, nobody here gets anything out of that..

I do know there are alot of supporters out there that are loyal to one or multiple DSMtuner sponsors. I am glad there are people still like that!

Hahaha not all of us are like that.. Just the cheap bastards... I know its hard to compete with the prices of ebay, but a lot of these guys don't have the extra buck... Don't worry guys I don't like the bay so I will be buying for you guys...

After I get off my rear and start to order for my cars. 2 6 bolt swaps.

I will however take bids to see if anyone wants to give me a deal on buying thousands of dollars in products from them ^^;;; j/k

But I would also like to be the first one to say thanks to all the vendors supporting us. I mean we also have Mike and the crew from SBR dynoing turbos ### we whine about never knowing specs about turbos and how to choose. AND the tech help they give.

Thank you Marti from Speed Factor for always telling us whats up in numerous threads.

p.s. Well I have been here forever and I have seen this evolve, I remember the days where we only had the RRE and buschar racings out there. Not that we don't still love those guys. But some of these vendors now have come into the community because they wanted us to get the ultimate service possible and with the volume before it was impossible for them all to help us. Now we have it, its like we take it for granted. Please support those who support our community.

Hey bud, we are always happy to help and support the community. That is what we are here for.

The fact that you mention Buschur and RRE is funny because I was just on the phone with someone who mentioned that "the reason that Buschur and RRE, pioneers in the DSM world have gone on to the EVO market is because the DSM market just isn't worth it."

His words not mine.

As far as the "cheap bastards" I know how it is sometimes, hell we are tuners before anything else and we all know how hard it is to make an honest buck these days but some people don't understand that while you may have paid a little less for the product the support that you are passing up is worth even more. Will this ebay company answer you questions if you need tech help? Do they publish their phone number, address, email address and even AIM name so that they can be there for you damn near anytime of the day? No they don't and that is because they could give a shit, all they know is that they sold something and now will have that money to pay for the keg that he needs that weekend or to pay his parents for letting them use their basement

We are here to help folks and no matter what we will always be here for this amazing community we have here but a little love, I mean is that too much to ask for? :p LOL

I didn't realize this website was a sales forum for vendors. If I can save money on something I will, bottom line. If DSMTuners vendors have comparable pricing I would buy from them, otherwise not.

I do understand the point that you are making, but everyones situation is different. In my case, I have a little girl...well three months little. I had my heart set on building this car from the ground up with my half of this years tax return. Because I know that for the rest of my life I have a kid thats going to need it. So I am just out to get as much for my buck as I can right now. Even if I only save 10 bucks here or 50 bucks there, it adds up. I do appreciate what you (vendors) do for the DSM community and I do appreciate the help that I recieved from you guys. Sorry if I pissed anyone off.

Well if its only supported buy Vendors, how do you think it pays for itself? There are other sites that charge for memeberships.. I guess if you didnt want vendor help on issues, and support vendors, you could just go to the walmarts of the car community and pay for the memberships like Sams clubs do. I guess thats up to you. I just hate to hear when users are complaining about Vendor help on a forum, yet after you get it take your business to a non affiliated company. Like I said, i am not being greedy, I would have rather seen the parts purchased at least from a DSMtuners supporting vendor instead of an Ebay company. If everyone thought like you and few others, we would only have Walmarts. No other shops, then once they monopolize the market they can jack up the prices. As usual, we are the demise to our own society. These comments just justify that. Keep Supporting the Ebay market it will reward you... well, probably not, other than being cheap.

In a way, it is. Their proceeds I'm sure help Kris to maintain this site. Although he was not obligated to purchase from a vendor he also wasn't obligated to mention that it was from eBay either. He saved some money on his cams "which is all good" but he should have omitted the eBay vendor part from his post because it was like a slap in the face to those helping him decide.

No offense to the original poster.

No offense taken. I am new to this site and up until about 10 minutes ago I had no idea that this site was soley supported by the vendors. Had I known that I never would have mentioned Ebay. I really sincerley appoligize to you guys for that one. :notgood: TO MYSELF!!

But in a sad attempt at bringing this back on track. What do you guys idle at with the 101200's? Good idle? Little rough from time to time? Is the tone change in your exhaust very noticable???hope not.

the 101200's won't give you an idle like the 272's would. It will be a good idle with a little bit of a tone difference and a little bit of a lump but not to the extent that it would become annoying or really affect your driving style.
