I need a new battery and am looking into the closed cell optimas, but there is so man, red yellow, ect. also the volts are all different, what do you guys suggest? car is going to have around 450 hp.

Red top. But if you are open to other options for less money u can have a lightweight oddyssey or kinetik

I run a group 51 I know its not a dry cell like your looking for but its smaller than stock and fits on the crossmember great. Also cost was a main selling point for me. Your horsepower goal doesn't matter when selecting a battery.

I and a few others on here run a Lawn and garden battery. They are made for Riding lawnmowers. The one I run is $30, 310 cca, is around 10 pounds and super small. I have no problems with it at all.

edit. if you run subs and an Amp, I would look at something bigger.

Which Group 51 do you use? Also, do they fit in the PC680 trays?

i run a Sears Diehard Platinum, 4 years 100k mile warranty. its a AGM Battery just like the Optimas but it has lasted me a lot longer since all the Optimas I have recently had, failed.

I do not think it will fit in a PC tray, as far as I know there's only one size in a group 51. Its what Honda civics have stock my car sees alot of street so I wanted a reliable battery and didn't want to pay a left nut for it. I don't have it in a tray I took out my evap cannister and stock tray and mounted it on the crossmember. You can kinda see it in my avatar pic.

Optima red top for 3-4 years or so now with no issues at all, even after almost completely draining it inadvertently and letting it sit for a year.

I forget which model number it is, but it has both the top and side posts. I run the side posts with my reworked wiring system, which makes the top very clean (with a cover), while still allowing easy access to the top posts for a timing light, jumper cables, etc.

Optimas are made at Johnson controls in Wisconsin. Where did you get mexico? Quality has decreased... or atleast thats the rumor. But I dont believe it. No proof to back this up.

my Yellowtop says it on the label.....I bought one at Napa two years ago, 5 months later, I returned it under warranty, and another 8 months later it wouldnt hold a charge. Read the Labels and it will say its made in Mexico.

Odd. The new redtops we get in at work all say Wisconsin.... but... well I guess being a yank has its perks. Cool to know Shane.

yup, no problem, i just googled it as well, and there are post since 09 that states the same thing with customers buying optimas labeled that they are made in Mexico. I had a redtop Pre-08 that lasted a good while. I have no idea what the hell happened to quality after that, and price went up. The Sears AGM battery is $220 around the same price, and includes a 4 year 100,000 mile warranty no hassle.
