weird rear end noise

so i have a 4 bolt rear end that came with the car when i bought it. about 2 weeks ago i noticed a weird noise coming from the rear end. It sounds just like an exhaust would sound but its not(slowed the car down and noise is still there) me not knowing a damb thing about rearends so does anybody know what this noise may be or what may be going bad?

What do you mean sounds like an exhaust should? Are you sure you don't just have an exhaust leak?

Does the noise change pitch with speed?

what i mean is the sound that i hear is the same sound that comes from an exhaust system only its not the exhaust, when i was on the highway i let off the gas and pushed the clutch in so the rpms went down and the sound was the same, the sound gets softer as i slow down so its not an exhaust leak im sure of it. I had a friend sit in the back seat and he could hear it coming right from the middle of the back of the car
