weird dash light

Nothing is supposed to be there, from the factory anyway. If it's just a single LED, the previous owner could have hooked in a knock sensor LED and therefore it won't light up unless there's sufficient knock inside the engine. Can you post a pic?

Yep mine had a little black plug there in the exact same spot housing a red led and a mess of dumb rats nest alarm wires under the dash. Good by wires.

I always wondered what mitsubishi ever intended that fake button to be.

there's four clips that hold it in, they are pretty much in the corner's. Just use a small standard screwdriver.

Your car might have the dealer installed alarm setup that was offered in certain year models, the alarm could be still installed and not working or could of been ripped out years ago and thats just the left overs from it, all I can tell you is trace the wires back and see what you find

My car has a red led there too, I've never seen it light up or do anything before. I was going to take it out and use that dummy switch as a push button for my rad fans, but ended up just rewiring the ac switch for that.
