weird cel on dash

i keep on having this light on the dash. its right next to the check engine light. it looks like the white house in washington d.c.

not sure what that light is. can anyone tell me what it is and why.

it comes on and stay on most of the time but does go off sometime when driving but then again pops up.

Haha. I love this question.

That's the 'Low Coolant' Light for your Coolant Reservoir.

Pour a cup of coolant in the Reservoir and it'll go away.

Also, you might want to find out if you have a leak or anything that might be causing your coolant to get low.

oh wow. thanks alot. nothing to big too worry about then.

i do sometime push coolant i think, b/c after long drive, it seems to push coolant out of that resuvior.

one thing though, my meter for water temp doesn't work also, does that have to do anything with the light coming on?

No, that doesn't effect the light... directly.

You should CERTAINLY either fix that connection to get your temp gauge working or run to a parts store and pick up an aftermarket Temp Gauge and tap it into your cooling system. For all you know your engine could be running extremely hot and you're boiling the coolant out of your engine. There are 3 main things you should worry about with these engines.

1 : Oil
2 : Coolant/Engine Temp
3 : Timing Belt.

You might want to immediately drop the next couple bucks you have on a way to monitor #2.

Is it really for coolant? I was always under the impression that it was for the charging system, cause anytime I had a alternator go out it always showed up, and it would be awfly coincidental that something was only wrong with my coolant when my alternator went out?

Usually when your Alternator is on it's way out, you'll have a series of lights come on. On the 1G specifically, Three individual lights will come on. I can't recall WHICH, but the series does contain the Coolant Temp light.

But yes, that light indicates Low Coolant. Use the search bar at the top of your page. You'll find that this question has been asked A LOT.

close, it's the indicator light for the coolant overflow bottle.

Either it's low of coolant, or you got the connection to it unplugged.
