I bought my dsm with a 16g on it... It boosts and just keeps going as rpms go up. Even with no boost controller it does this. Added some compressed air to the actuator. it moves, but doesn't seem to move far enough to fully open the gate. The turbo is a evo 3 big 16g. Has a mitsu symbol on the actuator, and doesn't look to be adjustable. Im pretty confused by this... is there a special actuator i need to get for the big 16g? Thanks!
 
I have no idea what your mods are. Blank profile. Are you saying you have boost creep? Famous on the 16g. If your boost just keeps going up you might... "will" need a boost gauge to see how much you are boosting before you hurt your engine.
The stock actuator is just fine btw.

i do have a gauge.... it hits 10 pounds. then by 6 grand i am almost past 25. I obviously let off at this point. Like i was saying it just seems to me the arm doesn't swing open far enough to fully open the wastegate. i will read up on that thread, but this doesn't creep... it just builds boost at an alarming rate LOL.

BTW, it still does it w/o the boost controller with just a straight vacuum line.
 
If its slowly building more boost at a alarming rate it IS boost creep dude. I think you need to learn your terms before you say it is or isnt anything.

Anyways, yes I will jump on this band wagon and add another point on to, boost Creep!!
You have PLENTY of flow for you exhaust to find its way out of the turbine, you're having issues with it figuring out there is a bypass(the wastegate) around the turbine due to the excessive flow which is easiest for it to exit not using the bypass(wastegate).

This can also cause a boost spike, but a spike is.. well a spike, where the boost shoots way up there for a second or so then drops back down! But again, this sounds to me as boost creep!

One solution is to widen you wastegate hole to allow a bit more exhaust to escape around the turbine!
Maybe upgrading you o2 Housing to free up some flow through the wastegate route. Or dump it off, rather than recirculating it back into the exhaust!
Another is to go with an external wastegate!

chill dude. its hard to describe the situation on a message board sometimes.

i was under the impression that creep was if it went up a couple pounds or such to redline. i am running off wastegate only so thats 11-14psi? i am seeing excess of 25+ if i were to keep going. Just thought that was excessive for a boost creep situation.

does it quickly shoot up, or gradually build to 25psi+?
Either way, its boost creep or a boost spike, and i've named a few ways to resolve the issue!

I started reading that thread.. right on the first page someone has the exact issue.. mine just seems to go higher.. maybe ### i have more done? either way, i guess an upgraded o2 housing would help... but and external gate just seems to be the way to go. Read this:


"This is a common problem. The evo3+larger exhaust tends to creep. I've posted too many times about this, but I'm a glutton for punishment .

First off, the WGA doesn't open the flapper enough to sufficiently bypass the turbine at low boost. If the door ain't open enough, too much exhaust goes through the turbine and generates more boost than you're wanting.

Second, anything you do downstream of the stock WG flapper won't help other than possibly cutting out the divider in the turbine housing that separates the WG and turbine exit passages, but a search should convince you that this isn't a good idea.

If it is actually creep, you have 3 worthwhile options:

1) Port the turbine housing PROPERLY along with the O2 housing.
2) Run an external WG or an internal that doesn't use the stock flapper (the flapper is removed and a much higher flowing, external-WG-style valve disposes of the exhaust from within a special O2 housing).
3) Run 20+psi boost if you're going that way anyway. The stock WG setup tends to "catch up" to the turbine flow by 20psi, so creep is less of a problem. This is cheapest in the long run if your aim is 20+psi, but if you're not ready to go there yet, options #1 or #2 should be considered.

I've been pushing for someone with sufficient motivation to find a WGA that has greater throw and is otherwise compatible to replace the evo3 WGA. It just doesn't rotate the flapper enough to open the passage enough. IMO, that's the true flaw in the evo3 b16g on a DSM. "

It's definitely boost creep and it is excessive creep, but it's not at all uncommon.
