Okay, folks, for some unknown reason, we're now getting three threads a week started about clutch malfunctions.
The usual cause is that the system hasn't been properly bled.

Have at it.

I put in a used, but in good condition master cylinder, to replace the one I had before with a broken rubber seal. I did not bleed any components, I simply took out the old one, and bolted the new one up. Then I proceeded to fill the reservoir with dot 3 brake fluid. Bubbles rose to the top of the reservoir, then I topped it off after the fluid ran down into the system. I looked at the clutch pedal and noticed it was still sitting on the floor. I tried pulling it up off the floor, but it only went up a few inches. Probably some adjusting that needs to be done with the rod is causing that. Anyway when I pull it up there is quite a bit of resistance, where when I let go the pedal just pulls right back to the floor. I've heard there is a vacuum going on, where with air in the system, it is just pulling that sucker right back. I tried pumping the crap out of the pedal with a friend opening the bleeder valve and I just shoot clutch fluid everywhere.. I Stop after about 50 pumps and put more fluid and keep going, but notice no improvement. Does anyone know what I need to do? Can anyone verify it is the air in the system causing my problem? Thank you,
Mike

nope, didn't mess with the flywheel at all. buddy who was helping me said it looked good as did the clutch fork.

I'm still relatively new to working on cars and not too sure what you mean to check the step.

well your buddy could be wrong. You should ALWAYS resurface the flywheel or get a new one. Did you align the PP with the tool and everything right?

Even though your flywheel isnt resurfaced, it should still disengage. I just had back to back problems with my clutch, replaced slave, master, pivot ball, fork, clutch, flywheel, ss lines, everything and it still wouldn't disengage. I even followed jacktransmissions way to properly adjust the master cyl to the right spot and it still wouldn't disengage. I put in a longer slave rod and still nothing. I gave up and brought it to a shop and they fixed it in 30 mins, turns out it was the adjustment. I asked them how they adjusted it because I did so many times myself. They said they have to get the exact ssweet spot on the master cylinder rod. On jackstransmissions they show you how to adjust the rod correctly, to where you push the slave and keep turning the rod tight untill you cant push in the slave anymore, and then you back out the slave 1/4 turn at a time untill you can push the slave again, that way you can get full throw without getting that master cylinder blocked off, well the shop who worked on my car had to turn 1/16 turn to get to the sweet spot. Hope you find out what it is.

"The Step" is the step down from where the clutch disk sits and where the Presure plate bolts down. Read that whole Road Race engineering link I put up and you'll figure it out.

Here is the next question. Is the clutch fork TAB that sticks OUTSIDE the tranny centered in the rectangular opening or is it more towards the Passenger side?
(3rd pic) If its toward the pass side it could be hitting the Tranny case and not allowing it to have full travel. You can break the edge off the tranny like that. If it is more toward the Pass side then you will need a new pivot ball and fork. If it is still to the Pass side after the new pivot ball and fork then you will need to shim the pivot ball with a washer until the fork is centered in the opening like the picture I posted.

Also check the play on the clutch pedal assembly in side the car . Sometime the clutch pedal assembly is worn. Press and release the pedal then grab the pedal by hand and pull it up. You should get very little movements when it’s pulled up. I had the same problem with my galant, when i pulled it up I had about ¼ inch of play on the pedal assembly in side the car on mine.

yeah I used the tool to align it properly, I have crap to do today as it's mothers day after I finish all of that I'll check the fork and I'll try adjusting it again. thanks for all the help

so i just had this mechanic install a new tranny act2900 clutch kit and fidanza flywheel(biggest mistake of my life so far). Now i go to pick up the car today, none of the gears go in, if i turn off the car put the gear in and then start the car , the gear pops right out. And then this guy is asking me what do i think is wrong. Can anybody please help me. I dont know what to do anymore besides not paying him.

So can you put it into gear at all without any grinding? Or will it grind? When you start it and it pops out, are you releasing the clutch or holding it down?

My clutch dropped to the floor while I was shifting from 3rd to Neutral (dont ask why) I barely know how to drive stick. But anywhos... I left it in N, Put my foot back on the clutch to find it stuck to the floor (straight away). So I pulled over lifted the clutch off the ground, seemed fine. Parked it, came back 20-30min, went into reverse clutch was fine. I then go into 1st, clutch got stuck on the grab spot. Drove it around a little no more issues. Just wondering what could have caused this? Me bad at driving stick?

I searched the topics of clutch dropping to floors, I don't think its crank walk, it was on a straight away.

Yeah it's not crank walk. It's your clutch master or slave cylinder. Best to replace them both at the same time both with OEM parts. $95 for the clutch master and $50 for the slave. jnztuning . com!

Not really sure, if it's not happening on every shift just stay real easy on the gas. Check for leaks around both parts and make sure your resivore stays full. Shouldn't hurt anything else unless the clutch keeps slipping.

Yea it only happen once so far, and at the grab spot shortly after... I havn't exp anymore issues so thats why Im undecided what is exactly the problem is. I thought if its the master and/or slave it would occur more often. I just got the car runnin after sitting for a full year, I just replaced IAC/ISC and Crank Angle Sensor. I really don't want anymore problems.. not for awhile at least ... LOL

I had this same problem last week. I drove to work and when i got ready to leave I pressed the clutch and it stayed to the floor. I checked the fluid and it had all leaked out during the day. After looking around I saw that the slave cylinder was leaking. A call to Auto Zone, $9 rebuild kit, and 20 minutes of work and it is just like new.
