My 4g63 nt is leaking a little oil (only when under a decent amount of pressure) at the valve cover gasket. Naturally I'm going to replace it. Found a tutorial here, and I'm not worried about actually doing it. What I am worried about is the gasket I bought. I bought an ebay one, when I was in quite a hurry. I just searched "4g63 valve cover gasket" and bought one of the first ones that popped up. Wasn't until later that I noticed it said 93-99. Mines a 90.

Whats the difference in the gaskets for the pre 93 and post 93 models (if there is one). And if there isn't one, should I be worried?

The difference is the 6-bolt and 7-bolt head. But if the gasket fits in the valve cover then you will be safe to use it. I doubt you will have any problems fitment. My only concern is that the Ebay gasket will dry up and leak very quickly.

I'll have to watch it. I was concerned on that too, but what would the difference be? (ebay vs whatever)

Yeah, but it can't be that far off... thats all I'm saying. Bottom line tho. Ebay gasket > leaking gasket ROFL

You sir, are a genius. Its even cheaper on there.

It's not just quality of the materials used or the process to make them. When you buy from a cheap company usually there is very low quality control and they use shipping methods that can damage their products.

Let's just say the two products are made with 100% the same materials and the same method to produce them, even the same machines.

The employees at the Ebay factory are under paid, over worked, don't give a shit, and regularly go with out any super vision other than being told to keep working. The owner of the Ebay factory wants to save money and produce a low cost product, so to save money he decides to not go with employees to check their products for quality. Instead of catching the mistakes they just let their costumers play Russian roulette with their money.

The name brand factory does the exact opposite and makes sure their customers get a high quality product nearly every time for a slightly higher cost.

But this is reality and almost every Ebay product is made with shit materials and with improper manufacturing techniques.

All parts places seem to differentiate between 6 and 7 bolt. But I was under the impression that all VC gaskets sets were the same from 90-99. So, what's different between 6 and 7 bolt VC gaskets?

It's most likely just the way their database/computer system is indexed. Both 6 and 7-bolt gaskets should cross reference to the same part... as far as I know.

Make sure you get a real rubber valve cover gasket like the felpro but don't get the cheap $20 one you want the one that's like $40 it way better never seen a drip of oil sence I have bought quality valve cover gasket.

i dont think any different between 6 botl and 7 bolts.

Ebay rubber gasket is fine. i've been running with no leaks,

it is just the matter how you torque the bolts and where you put RTV.

make sure to have even torque, otherwise leak again...

I am getting ready to swap out my loud ass clicking lifters for some new revised 3G lifters, my question is do I reuse my current valve cover gasket (only has 10k on it) or do I just go and buy a new set? thanks in advance.

I have noticed a difference before in several valve cover gaskets.

The main difference I noticed was the shape of the bolt hole area on the spark plug tube seals. Some of them are shorter (where it goes out around the bolt) and some are longer. If you have the wrong plug hole seals u will notice because they do not fill the whole area where its supposed to sit, and you have to almost force the bolts through to get them lines up. (not optimal) I have also noticed a few of the gaskets seem to have a shorter radius near where the lump goes over the CAS hump. but this always seems to settle into the correct spot once all tightened down. Im almost certain the change over in this difference was between the 6 bolt and 7 bolt change over in 1992. Ill try and take some pictures of the differences in the gaskets and post it up, and I searched through several other "valve cover" threads and never found a definitive answer on the differences.

There is also a totally different gasket for the "shaved" Hyundai valve coves that just say " DOHC 16 valve" on the bottom portion.
