Need to replace my gasket but I wanted to get peoples input on a good gasket. Ie had horible luck with the molded rubber ones

I went through a NAPA and a Ebay gasket that both leaked. Spent like $20 on an OEM and never had a problem.

Save your money and buy the OEM once.:thumb:

Most leaks are due to people not torquing the bolts properly, not properly cleaning the surfaces, or people using rtv. I have used just about every brand out there and was able to get a leak free seal with them all.

Felpro here with no problems. Use a thin smear of rtv only on any 90 degree angles and under the half moon, it won't leak. I've even taken it off to paint the valve cover and reused it and a year later it still doesn't leak

OEM or Fel-pro. I just replaced the eBay gasket i had installed, (lasted 1000 miles)
I replaced it with a Fel-pro. Stopped the leak. I can't really comment on Fel-pro's longevity considering i just installed it last weekend. In comparison the Fel-pro fit better, slightly thicker and more durable compared to the eBay gasket.

The problems me and my job have had with the molded rubber ones is when you torque them down and the gasket heats up it splits. And then leaks like crazy. What all Gould I replace while I am replacing that gasket

Be sure to stay away from top line. Oem is the way to go. Where is it leaking?

Looks like the back side

Why is using rtv a problem? Perhaps the wrong rtv .

I had a problem with an Ebay valve cover gasket. Felpro + black RTV --> no leaks at all from the valve cover.

In the corners around the cam arches you almost have to put the RTV there. Plus that half moon piece needs some. Its what works best for you, just dont use RTV around the whole thing.

Ive had a cheap rubber gasket for 2 years with no leaks, just need some rtv on the corners and half moon with the correct torque and youll be okay.

IF the gasket is splitting than than the vc is overtorqued. It doesn't need much at all.

Nothing wrong with it if you are putting it in the right places that you covered here. Some people go crazy and cover the whole gasket with it.

The previous owner of my Talon used grey rtv on everything, the whole vc gasket was globbed with it including all around the spark plug openings, friggin mess and it was still leaking. RTV is great if you use it right like said above; clean the surfaces, don't use too much and clean up the excess, let it set before fully tightening things down, and don't over tighten. Most people are impatient and just glob it on, then tighten the shit out of everything wondering why its still leaking.

Apparently they fel-pro came out with a new gasket type. It's blue rubber!!?!?!?
