Getting ready to paint my valve cover and had to pull the valve cover off for a few things, so I guess it is time to change the valve cover gasket etc.

My engine probably has about 45k miles on it so all of the gaskets are relatively new.

I checked the VFAQ for the replacement procedure etc. and I have done the job more than once on DSMs that I used to own.

I was wondering if all of the gaskets need to be replaced or just some of them.

The price for the gaskets is a bit higher than my other vehicles due to the sheer number of gaskets that need to be replaced.

If replacing all of the gaskets and going OEM is really the only way to know, I'd like to hear about it. If not, I'd like to know what your thoughts are either way.

Thanks

replace all the gaskets. it should just be 4 round gaskets for the spark plug holes and 1 gasket for the valve cover itself. should all come in 1 kit.

What about the camshaft seal? Should I replace that too? Any idea whether or not that comes with the kit?

Thanks

Man, I have reused VC gaskets 3+ times without and issue. I always use some RTV as well. Haven't had a leakage problem yet.

If they're not leaking, don't worry about it. The camshaft seals do not come with the valve cover gaskets and you'd pretty much have to do a timing belt job to replace those.

Did you mean to not worry about the cam seal or don't worry about any of it? I'll clean everything back up and slap it back together in a heartbeat if I don't need to worry about the valve cover gaskets and the valve cover gasket.

Thanks

Camshaft seals.

If you need to do the valve cover/spark plug gaskets, feel free to do them.

Thanks...kind of undecided based on some of the posts here. I'd rather have money in my pocket as much as possible. It's not exactly like reusing a head gasket. :)

Still...
