Valve Cover AN fitting install for catch can

Hi,

I'm building a lot of crank case pressure and want to install -10 AN lines fromthe vc to a catch can as can be seen in the picture. My questions is: Can this be done without actual welding of the fittings to the vc? Can they just be threaded in? Would lock tite or JB weld hold up otherwise?

Although you can tap and thread in the correct fittings (meaning AN on one side of the union and NPT on the other), it is HIGHLY recommended that you have the fittings welded to complete eliminate the possibility of introducing positive pressure into the baffles through the fittings.
 
If your not dead set on AN fittings, you can just use a normal hose on the side of the valvecover, then drill out your PCV, and run a normal hose off that.

I think I see where you're going, but I've already eliminated my PCV valve (caused vac leak through baffle to breather).

So my plan is:

1.) Remove baffles
2.) Drill and tap vc
3.) install fittings without cracking vc (maybe JB weld too)
4.) clean the bajeebers out of the vc to get rid of any metal shavings
5.) reinstall with catch can
6.) Empty oil out of catch can weekly since I will have no baffles

Seem good?
 
I did 5/8" brass fitting from the hardware store. Drilled 1/2" holes and used some jb weld stick after I partially threaded them in. Sanded smooth and painted it up. Came out pretty cute.

I know for sure they are not -8, but I don't remember if they were -10 or -12.

I threaded in two -10 AN fittings into my valve cover. I did not use any JBweld or Loctite, and they are fine. Two things though the drill bit and tap for 1/2 NPT is about 50$ total. And the second is that you have to take the baffles out, and the run the tap all the way through the top, since the taps are tapered, or the fitting will stick up to high and rub, which mine rubs alittle, but I could car less.

Alright great that's what I plan to do. Did you remove the baffles? If so how much oil do you get in the catchcan? How much clearance is there between the fitting and the cam on the inside of the valve cover?

I drilled out the 2 factory holes in the vc and threaded them for 3/8 npt. I used -8 to 3/8npt adapters from summit. Teflon paste on the threads seals them up.

Isn't it bad to not pull the crankcase gasses out? Doesn't it contaminate the oil with gasoline causing the oil to break down? I thought that the only guys who run no pcv valve have pretty much race cars, am I missing something here?

My plan was to just drill another hole and find a fitting that's nice and snug with a lot teflon tape on it, but now I think I might just drill out the breather hole to twice the regular size or so and still run it to my intake with a filter in-line to catch the oil.

I've driven this car 8k miles in 9 years. Its not exactly a dd. I would never eliminate the PCV valve for a daily. I assumed by the pic you posted(I know its not yours)you know thats not a daily driven car. This subject has been beaten to death, and I'm not going to beat it some more.

I never heard that you shouldn't run without a pcv. Can you post some threads if it's been beaten to death?

When I run a PCV I get idle surge so I don't run one. ANyone know why that is?
 
There's a ton of ways to do this but here's how I did mine since your using my car for an example. First I left the baffles in. Second I used -10 fittings and cut down the end going into the vc so they would clear the baffles and hood. Third I used the Kiggly Racing oil pressure manifold to help control oil push during racing, you also need a fp oil regulator for the turbo do to the increased oil volume and pressure. Fourth you send it to TCC to get beautiful. He also offers tig welding so one stop shop him and it will be perfect. Jeff
